Work Area: Clinic for Nuclear Medicine - Preclinical Theranostics

Job ID: 12152

Contract Type: temporary

Contract duration: 36 Months; in accordance with § 2 Abs. 1 WissZeitVG

Your tasks:

The Preclinical Theranostics team focuses on theranostic approaches with the goal to deliver new insights into tumor biology, heterogeneity, and metabolism and their relationship and relevance to functional imaging and biomarker-driven treatments in nuclear medicine. Radiopharmaceutical therapy (RT) is a promising treatment option for various cancers. However, outcomes are rarely curative. We address this clinical need by investigating new radiopharmaceutical modalities and the mechanisms underlying the response/resistance to RPT. To improve RPT outcomes, we establish phenotypic (imaging) biomarkers and develop rationally chosen, translatable RPT-based combination therapies.

We are searching for an enthusiastic and highly qualified PhD student for a project within our EU-funded consortium Thera4Care. The project includes the investigation of radiopharmaceutical cancer therapy and its radiobiological effects.

  1. The investigation of radiopharmaceutical cancer therapy and its radiobiological effects
  2. In vitro and in vivo studies (PET/SPECT/CT imaging, therapy), molecular biological and protein-biochemical methods, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, omics analyses (e.g., RNAseq), and bioinformatic data analysis
  3. Discuss the results in regular group meetings and potentially on national and international scientific conferences

Your profile:

  1. Diploma or Master degree or comparable internationally recognized title in biomedical sciences (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine, Pharmacy or similar)
  2. Ideally experience in tumor biology and/or nuclear medicine, however, this is not a prerequisite
  3. Ideally first experience in bioinformatic data analysis
  4. Independent, structured and solution-oriented way of working, high motivation, enthusiasm, flexibility, stress resistance, commitment, and reliability
  5. Excellent knowledge of English language, both written and spoken
  6. Knowledge of MS Office (Power Point, Excel, Word)

Look forward to:

  1. A secure job in the public service of the state of NRW
  2. Fair payment in accordance with the collective wage agreement (TV-L) incl. annual bonus payment and supplementary company pension scheme
  3. 30 days of vacation per calendar year (for a full-time position)
  4. Interdisciplinary work with colleagues from other departments
  5. Working with modern equipment and certified quality standards
  6. Family-friendly corporate culture, e.g. company daycare center, vacation program for school-age children, advice and support from the Employee Service Office in all life situations
  7. Wide range of training and continuing education opportunities, e.g. at the Training Academy of UK Essen
  8. Health Management, e.g. company integration management, vaccinations, promotion of sports activities
  9. Attractive fringe benefits, e.g. reduced-price canteen meals, community events, accommodation in student residences
