Position Description

The Operations Specialist can be based out of Kinder Morgan’s Southern Natural Gas (SNG) Heidelberg Compressor Station located at 83 County Road 37, Heidelberg, MS 39439. This is a Monday through Friday position with some on-call responsibilities nights and weekends. Ops Spec Primary Purpose:

Responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of Company gas pipelines, appurtenances, gas compressor stations, process plants and other related facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of pipelines, gas compressors and auxiliary equipment, engines, solar & GE gas turbines, motors cooling equipment, pump stations, pumps, dehydration equipment, process equipment, valves, seals and other related equipment.
2. Start, stop and operate gas engines/pumps within defined operating parameters.
3. Ensure the cost effective and efficient performance of all engines, pumps and associated equipment at compressor stations, pump stations, terminals, pipelines, and process plants.
4. Diagnose and repair engines, turbines, pumps, seals, valves and instruments.
5. Install, repair, service and maintain valves, pipe, pipeline appurtenances, corrosion control protection systems, measurement equipment and storage well equipment.
6. Responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment, including pipeline right-of-way, and gathering or storage areas.
7. Maintain, adjust, make repairs, and operate equipment; industrial wheeled tractors, water pumps, air compressors, expanders, coolers, test equipment, vehicles, etc.
8. Represent the Company during contacts with landowner/tenants, public officials/emergency officials and at local meetings.
9. Oversee construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third parties.
10. Train and oversee company and third-party personnel as required.
11. Perform minor electrical maintenance.
12. Identify, report and correct safety and/or environmental concerns.
13. Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives.
14. Participate in the development of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Procedures, site specific procedures, project scopes and work plans.
15. Complete all applicable documentation and record keeping.
16. Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, regulatory, and Company tariff requirements.
17. Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
18. Regular and predictable attendance.
19. Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications, Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Technical Certificate in Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial Maintenance, or other similar two year certificates strongly recommended.
2. Pipeline operations experience, including specific working experience with natural gas movement, mechanical maintenance, and/or environmental requirements affecting natural gas activities is highly desirable.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:

1. Possess a valid driver's license and meet company insurability requirements.
2. May be required to possess a commercial driver’s license, drive a company commercial vehicle and comply with all commercial vehicle and Department Of Transportation DOT regulations.
3. May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties.
4. Achieve and maintain all PHMSA Operators qualifications and progression requirements applicable to the job classification.

Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint and Outlook.
2. Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals).
3. Good verbal and written communication skills.
4. Ability to speak and understand English.
5. Ability to work with others, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

Physical Demands:

1. Must be able to frequently enter confined spaces.
2. Climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways.
3. Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions, and 50 pounds from floor to waist.
4. Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

Working Conditions:

1. May work in low-lit areas.
2. Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions.
3. Depending upon the location and workload, travel will be required.
4. Must reside in the general vicinity of Heidelberg, MS for on-call and emergency response purposes.
