Operations Preparation Software Engineer (Ground Segment)

Our client is a software company specialized in the space industry. The company has a successful history of integrating open-source software and proven web technologies into projects, thriving on building long-term relationships with customers. At the moment, our client is looking for a Software Engineer, preferably with Ground Segment, namely Operations Preparation and/or Mission Planning experience, to join their Service Team in projects for their client EUMETSAT.

Location: Germany, Darmstadt
Work Regime: Onsite

Main Accountabilities:

The selected candidates will be involved in activities such as software support, lifecycle maintenance, integration, validation, testing, maintenance, and operations preparation supporting MCS (mission control system) applications. The support of the preparation and routine operations of different spacecraft missions will require the use of a set of operations preparation tools covering the following functions:

1. Telemetry and Telecommand database management
2. Flight Procedure management
3. Onboard Control Procedure management

The ideal candidate would be a Software Engineer with experience in supporting the Operations Preparation team in the context of Ground Segment engineering activities, such as:

1. Coordinating and/or executing activities related to routine maintenance of the different operations preparation tools
2. Roadmap definition and implementation of the different operations preparation tools
3. Maintaining and evolving the application lifecycle, the application management of operations preparation tools and associated infrastructure
4. Maintaining and evolving the knowledge base using the applicable knowledge management infrastructure
5. Contributing to the procurement of operations preparation tools
6. Providing engineering and user support expertise related to the usage of operations preparation tools

Missions to be supported:

S3, S6, EPS mission, possibly expanding to other existing missions such as MTG, EPS-SG, CO2M, AWS.

Requirements and Qualifications:

1. 5 or more years’ experience in the domain of satellite Mission Control Systems and in maintaining software systems in an operational environment
2. Knowledge and demonstrated experience in MCS functions consisting of TM/TC processing chains, procedure and schedule automation, data archive, operations preparation, mission planning, and ground station interfaces
3. IV&V of complex MCS applications
4. Experience in the development, operation, and maintenance of mission operations preparation systems and/or mission planning systems is highly valued
5. Java, SQL, C, C++ programming languages and related development environments as well as open-source technologies
6. Shell Scripting (Bash, Perl, etc.)
7. Knowledge of ECSS standards relevant to the MCS domain
8. Knowledge of the following software/tools (or similar) would be an advantage: MOIS (Mission Operations Information System), DABYS (management of mission and application configuration data), spacecraft simulations, EGOS-MPS, APEX (Automation & Procedure Execution)
9. Languages: Fluency in English
