Interim Operations Manager

Location: Dortmund

Looking for a commercially minded Operations Manager / Director to support a small, international group of companies through a period of change and growth.

Their German operation consists of two companies that operate under the same group structure. It employs around 20 people across the two and is based in Dortmund.

The two arms will likely merge in time, but for now, they stay separate while sharpening their individual focus.

You’ll report directly to the CEO and play a pivotal role in improving day-to-day operations and overall performance. This business is ready for change; it just needs the right person to bring structure and pace without overcomplicating things.

What you'll be doing:

• Overseeing the full operational setup across both companies – process, people, tools, and reporting.
• Working directly with department leads across sales, marketing, finance, logistics, and customer support.
• Identifying inefficiencies and bottlenecks – and fixing them.
• Helping build the internal culture and improving collaboration between the two arms.
• Supporting integration planning for the eventual group merger.
• Working with the CEO to set and track KPIs, financial performance, and team accountability.
• Driving sustainable commercial growth – no vanity metrics, just solid progress.

You’ll need:

• Solid experience as a hands-on Operations Manager or above, ideally within a small to mid-sized business.
• Experience of B2B or B2C.
• Proven ability to drive change, implement structure, and improve team performance.
• Great with people – confident managing multiple stakeholders and teams.
• Strong commercial understanding – able to track metrics that matter and course-correct where needed.
• Conversational in English.

The contract:

• 3 days/week for the first 2–3 months, then reducing to 1–2 days/week.
• Day rate up to €450, depending on experience.
