FACULTY OF BUSINESS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
DEPARTMENT OF NURSING AND MANAGEMENT
FROM 1 OCTOBER 2025: FACULTY OF HEALTH
The post is permanent and full-time.
Knowledge, action, change: each day, these intrinsically linked values inspire us to meet and tackle the societal and technological challenges of our time. As well as providing the specialists and managers of tomorrow with the interdisciplinary knowledge they will need in their future careers, we seek to advance their problem-solving skills and their awareness of their responsibility in and to the world.
With the applied sciences at the heart of all we do, we work hand in hand to create a visionary campus with a positive and enduring effect on Hamburg and the surrounding region.
HAW Hamburg. Because you can make a difference.
The newly created professorship of Nursing Studies covers the field of “Nursing Care for People of all Ages”. The field covers nursing care in the various nursing settings and includes not only teaching at the university but also guiding the students’ learning at the practical level.
This regular professorship provides the special framework, funded by the project “go-2-prof:In” (joint funding programme by the federal and state governments for staff at universities of applied sciences), to work as a specialisation professor for cooperative research projects until 30 September 2028. In this role, you will benefit from a temporary reduction of your teaching activity to 11 course hours, allowing you to develop and organise cooperative research projects with a focus on clinical settings in nursing studies.
As a professor of Nursing Studies, you will be a representative for the subject, especially in the nursing-related courses of study of the Department of Nursing and Management and/or the future Faculty of Health. You will pursue an active role in research in order to contribute to the development of German nursing studies – which is still in its early stages – with contents and university teaching in the aforementioned areas.
Generally speaking, cooperation in the areas of teaching and research within the future Faculty of Health is both provided for and encouraged. Cooperative national and international projects for teaching and research are also in place, with plans to expand them.
The professorship’s field of teaching and research is an essential component of the profile of Nursing Studies at the future Faculty of Health. The professorship is encouraged to take a more detailed interpretation of this academic field.
As a professor, you will take on the tasks of university lecturers with regard to teaching, research, further education and self-governance. In addition to your subject-specific tasks, this also includes taking part in applied research and development tasks, as well as assuming responsibility within the university’s self-governance bodies and functions.
You will also contribute to the development and implementation of further education services in your area of responsibility, e.g. with regard to further academic qualifications for practical instructors in the advertised field, in accordance with the requirements of the German Nursing Professions Reform Act (Pflegeberufereformgesetz) and the new Act to Strengthen Nursing Studies (Pflegestudiumstärkungsgesetz).
You should have the following qualifications:
The following skills and experience are also of interest to us:

In order for us to consider international applicants, recognition of the candidate’s training in nursing and of the courses of study they have completed must be submitted according to the applicable laws in Germany. B2-level German language skills are expected.
For appointment as a professor, as well as the general staff requirements, the appointment requirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG) also apply. These can be read on our website.
This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences as well as a choice of residence in proximity to the university.
The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals in accordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.
As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and basic performance benefits, a provision of appointment performance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president. In addition, there is also the possibility of granting a bonus from third-party funds.
Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 50 at the time of appointment may be appointed as tenured officials, otherwise the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.
We offer you challenging work in an open-minded, forward-thinking university. You will be integrated into a team who enjoy your participation and are happy to support you in the early stages of your integration. Your workplace is centrally located and has very good public transport links.
