ML Engineer/Python Developer (m/f/d) – Python/CI/CD/REST API design/ML engineering/English

Project: For our customer a big pharmaceutical company in Basel we are looking for ML Engineer/Python Developer (m/f/d).

Background: We are looking for 2 candidates with quite similar profiles: Python Developer and a ML Engineer. In Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. This position is located in Data Products & Platforms, a chapter within the Data & Analytics function, which pushes boundaries of drug discovery and development, enabling pRED to achieve its goals. The task is to… develop the pRED Data & Analytics “Target Evaluator” pilot project. This project will be executed in close collaboration with colleagues from Translational Medicine Neuroscience. The focus will be on implementing the project requirements to develop a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). The two Software Engineers will work to integrate selected open-source multi-agent systems towards a comprehensive, unbiased ranking framework for new drug target proposals, with the goal to demonstrate feasibility and value of such an approach. This role requires good skills in software development and team working. One profile is expected to be an ML engineer, the second one is expected to be a Python developer.

The perfect candidate. Strong Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python, with a solid understanding of software development principles and best practices. REST API Design: Deep knowledge and experience in designing and implementing RESTful APIs. CI/CD and DevOps: Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment using GitLab, GitOps, and Kubernetes for hosting services is advantageous. Familiarity with implementing user interfaces is a plus. High-Performance Computing: Prior experience working in HPC environments is beneficial. Machine Learning Engineering needed for an ML Engineer position: Some experience in machine learning engineering or MLOps, ideally within the life sciences domain, to support the development of data-driven solutions. LLMs and Multi-Agent Framework required for ML Engineer position: Knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs) and LLM-based multi-agent frameworks from the perspective of an engineer is required.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Provide agile software development services for the “Target Evaluator” project according to the project plan
• Provide technical consulting services to support the project team

Must Haves:

• Educational background: Bachelor or higher education
• Professional background in a similar role: around 5 years experience
• IT skills: Python, CI/CD, REST API design, ML engineering
• Language skills: English fluent

Nice to Have:

• ML engineering
• experience in high performance computing
• user interface design
