Jobbeschreibung

Agilent encourages and supports discoveries that advance the quality of life. We provide life science, diagnostic, and applied market laboratories worldwide with instruments, services, consumables, applications, and expertise. Agilent enables customers to gain the answers and insights they seek so they can do what they do best: improve the world around us.

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Research & Development team based in Waldbronn, Germany.

As an R&D Engineer, you will be part of a diverse R&D team responsible for developing future laboratory instrumentation within the Agilent Diagnostics and Genomics Group (DGG). This Group develops solutions that include reagents, instruments, software, and consumables, enabling customers in the clinical and life sciences research areas to interrogate samples at the cellular and molecular level. This position would be based out of Waldbronn, Germany, within the Biomolecular Analysis Division, which develops best-in-class Automated Electrophoresis and Microfluidic laboratory instrumentation. These devices are used for the automated separation of bio-molecules such as proteins and nucleic acids (RNA and DNA) and are used to determine the identity of a molecule by either size or charge.

You would be involved in and have technical responsibility for defining and developing novel products, components, processes, and systems using broad engineering concepts and research techniques. This role would also include testing design ideas in a laboratory environment along with solving complex and high-impact design and development problems. You will also assist in product definition and concept generation to meet design and business growth objectives while collaborating closely with colleagues – Electrical Engineers, Firmware Engineers, Software Engineers, Assay Scientists, and extended functions.

This is an opportunity that would allow you to grow within a world-class company and develop your skills whilst working with a team of talented and enthusiastic Scientists & Engineers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform mechanical design for automated electrophoresis instrumentation during development through product release, including creating drawings, BOMs, and working with suppliers on the design and purchase of parts.
  • Follow the latest technology trends and propose new insights for further research and development.
  • Actively participate in cross-functional project team meetings during product development (comprised of mechanical, electronics, firmware, software, applications, marketing, manufacturing, etc.).
  • Solve and analyze technical issues in depth to understand core problems and provide sound solutions.
  • Work with external engineering partners in mechanical design and development.
  • Support manufacturing if needed for improvement projects after products are released.

Qualifications:

  • University degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years in hardware/product development, ideally in the field of laboratory devices.
  • Experience in developing optics systems (optomechanical) and integrating optical components.
  • Proficiency with 3D parametric CAD modeling software, preferably Siemens NX CAD.
  • Experience in developing products from concept to market release within an R&D environment utilizing relevant industry standards (GD&T) to ensure quality products.
  • Demonstrated experience in common manufacturing processes, manufacturing methods, and production-oriented design.
  • Self-starter in conceptualizing and designing novel products, component designs, or concepts.
  • Good English and German communication skills.

What will make you stand out:

  • Passion for optics engineering and the willingness to learn and expand knowledge of this discipline to be utilized in product development.
  • Experience with optical design software (Ansys, ZEMAX, or similar).
  • Passion for working in a diverse, fast-paced, high-tech environment.
  • Can-do team player.
  • Good organizational skills, particularly regarding record-keeping and computer file organization, and model/drawing revision control.

We offer:

  • Exciting and inspiring projects in multi-functional teams.
  • Training on the job in a motivated, dynamic R&D team.
  • A working environment with a multitude of possibilities for professional training and career development.
