Role Overview & Project: We are looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer (f/m/d) to join our engineering team. In your role, you will support the design and development of our broad range of advanced solar arrays, using technologies such as mechanical, origami-foldable architectures and in-space manufactured structures. You will follow our products from early-stage concepts and breadboarding, all the way up to qualification campaigns and launch campaigns, working closely with our team to bring high-performance, reliable products to our customers.

Mission: DCUBED is accelerating space exploration missions with cost effective and durable space hardware, solutions and subsystems. Our groundbreaking projects pushing the boundaries of technology and advancing space exploration have huge implications for both the company and the industry as a whole.

Tasks

Daily, you will be solving problems – most likely ones that no one has run into before and support the R&D team with the development of custom Mechanical Systems & Hardware:

1. Technical trade-offs
2. Design mechanical assemblies for solar arrays and other deployable structures
3. Perform structural analyses to validate your designs
4. Design and build proof-of-concepts for early design validation
5. Produce technical drawings and manufacturing documentation
6. Coordinate production of mechanical parts with external suppliers
7. Produce tolerance budgets and design for manufacturing
8. Support the assembly and integration activities of our systems
9. Produce technical documentation and participate in reviews with external stakeholders
10. Participate in test campaigns

Das bringst Du mit

Candidate Background:

1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
2. 1-2 years industry experience in one of the following areas: structural design, structural analysis, manufacturing, testing, assembly and integration (MAIT)
3. Proven experience with mechanical design and analysis using CAD and FEM tools
4. Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric | Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
5. Demonstrated experience in working in a dynamic and rapidly-paced environment
6. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team environment
7. Fluent in English
8. Eligible to work in Germany

Nice to have requirements:

1. Familiarity with (New) space environment (1+ years)
2. Familiar with ECSS
3. Familiar with ESA projects (1+ years)
4. You're likely someone who enjoys designing things on your own time, including 3D printing, welding, grinding, and machining
5. Experienced with mechanisms of development
6. Coding in Python
