What to Expect:

As an Engineer in the Seating Engineering Department, you will be in charge of Design Engineering from concept to End of Life, as well as problem solving for existing products.

Today’s seating commodities include structures, mechanisms, actuators, cushions, wire harnesses, controllers, sensors, software, trims, and more. Future seating solutions are not limited to these. A seat can be defined as a product that enables comfortable support for vehicular occupants.

Team members typically play dual roles as experts and polymaths, using their particular expertise to complement the team. You will be part of the Seating Engineering Team within Tesla’s Vehicle Engineering Group.

What You’ll Do:

As an integrated part of Tesla’s Vehicle Engineering team, you will conceptualize, design, engineer, and manage Seating System parts and products. You will be responsible for:

• Structural components (stampings, welding, bolted joints, castings, engineering composites, etc.)
• Exceeding automotive industry expectations for safety and usability of Seating systems based on engineering first principles
• Employing the Design Engineering process, including:

1. Problem understanding and definition & target setting
2. Concept generation and evaluation & product strategy and architecture planning
3. Negotiation, balancing, and management of product attributes including safety, functionality, comfort, aesthetics, cost, mass, schedule, and sustainability
4. Validation and optimization through prototype making, physical testing, CAE simulations, and design reviews
5. 3D model and 2D drawing creation, Bill of Materials creation, and detail design including datum & fixation strategy, GD&T, DFM
6. Collaboration with external organizations
7. Technical documentation creation for official use and communication

What You’ll Bring:

• Educational background in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Evidence of exceptional ability
• Design engineering experience with a demonstrated interest in multidisciplinary engineering
• Hands-on experience where you have built something
• Automotive engineering with seating experience is preferred but not mandatory
