Moving mountains together – as Laborleiter / Head of Laboratory (all genders) Parenteral Manufacturing Sciences (Product Development Science & Technology PDS&T) (permanent / full-time)

We are seeking for a Head of Laboratory for development of new biotechnological products in the Parenteral Manufacturing Sciences (PaMS) group within the Product Development Science & Technology (PDS&T) organization in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

In this role you will make remarkable impact by leading a group of highly skilled and highly motivated scientists who develop drug product manufacturing processes for some of AbbVie’s most important pipeline assets, e.g. monoclonal antibodies and therapeutic neurotoxins. You will be in charge of developing streamlined, state-of-the-art development approaches as well as alignment of these with Abbvie sites globally. You will be part of the highly committed PaMS leadership team and be responsible for driving science, culture as well as professional development of your people.

Responsibilities

• Disciplinary and functional leadership for a team of scientists
• Scientific and functional leadership for development of manufacturing processes for new parenteral drug products, specifically liquid dosage forms of biotechnological drugs in vials, syringes or cartridges and lyophilizates. Close cooperation with project/technical leads, the manufacturing areas and analytical development
• Close cooperation with the R&D process development group for handover of products and processes from the early clinical development phase
• Process expert and on-site support for transfer of manufacturing processes to commercial manufacturing sites as well as support for post-approval process changes or transfers
• Establishment of standard approaches for process development considering scientific, regulatory and process-economic aspects
• Alignment of joint approaches within the global organization
• Ensuring scientific excellence of development approaches
• Ensuring appropriate documentation of all work according to applicable GSP or GMP requirements
• Support for authoring of submission documents
• Ensuring adherence to work safety requirements
• Representation of projects in internal and external collaborations
• Representation of the department in internal and external collaborations
• Responsibility for all personnel management and development tasks of the lab team

• University degree in Pharmacy/Biology/Biotechnology/Chemistry/Process Engineering or similar areas
• PhD with typically 6+ years of experience in area or scientific area of discipline, Master or equivalent education with typically 12+ years of experience, Bachelor or equivalent education and extensive, typically, 14+ years of experience
• According to the AbbVie career path in this department, there are different types of Head of Laboratory, which will be graded according to experience and qualifications brought in. The responsibilities listed above will also be adjusted to the seniority level brought in
• Highly energetic personality
• Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate and inspire a team
• Multiyear professional experience in drug product development or manufacturing, preferably of biotechnological products
• Excellent technical and pharmaceutical understanding of manufacturing processes for parenteral drug products
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in German and English
• Excellent team player and ability to manage conflicts
• Demonstrated scientific communication and presentation skills
• Experienced and demonstrated success as primary author of publications, presentations, regulatory documents and/or primary inventor of patents
