The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF) and funded by federal and state government. AWI focuses on polar and marine research in a variety of disciplines such as biology, oceanography, geology, geochemistry, and geophysics, thus allowing multidisciplinary approaches to scientific goals.
Background
The position will be localized in the AWI section “Polar Biological Oceanography”. The section uses a wide spectrum of physiological and genetic analytical methods. The focus of the advertised position is on the investigation of marine invertebrates via molecular/genetic analyses. Specifically, we investigate the internal clocks and the control of rhythms in copepods (Calanus) and worms (Platynereis). Copepods have a key role in pelagic food webs and perform daily and seasonal vertical migrations. Platynereis worms use their internal clocks to synchronize their reproduction with the lunar cycle.
