We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented German-speaking (Junior) People Operations Manager (m/f/d) to join our team and help build a positive, efficient, and engaging work environment for our employees in Berlin and globally.

As part of the People team, you will play a key role in strengthening our people operations, ensuring that our processes are solid, effective, and people-centric, while also enhancing our office culture. Your hands-on mentality, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively will help drive process improvements, support recruitment, development, and retention efforts, and contribute to various people-related projects that directly impact AVOW’s work experience.

In addition, you will take on Office Management responsibilities, ensuring a well-organized and welcoming workplace for our Berlin team.

What are the main performance objectives in this role?

  • Ownership of People Ops function for Berlin and global employees (70 people)
  • Manage key administrative tasks such as employment contracts, reference letters, and pension plan documentation.
  • Ensure operational excellence during payroll preparation, create reports, and support the monthly payroll process.
  • Address employee queries and provide HR-related support to ensure smooth operations.
  • Onboard new employees globally, ensuring they feel welcomed and supported.
  • Maintain relationships with external authorities (payroll providers, office-related insurances, etc.).
  • Ownership of Berlin office workplace
  • Create and maintain a welcoming and comfortable office environment where all employees feel valued.
  • Foster a positive, supportive atmosphere that encourages productivity and collaboration.
  • Support office-related logistics and manage space usage to ensure a seamless work experience.
  • People project ownership and people process improvements
  • Collaborate with the People & Culture (P&C) team to improve and automate processes (e.g., annual performance reviews).
  • Bring fresh ideas to the table, continuously improving HR processes for greater efficiency and employee satisfaction.
  • Work independently and within the team to develop new initiatives that align with company goals.
What are the strengths, transferable skills, and behaviors that drive success in this role?
  • Experience in People/HR Teams: Previous exposure to working in HR or People Operations is essential.
  • Technical proficiency with HRIS: Familiarity with human resources information systems, such as Personio, will help you navigate processes efficiently.
  • Proficient in German and English: Strong communication skills in both languages will be key in managing internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Ownership and proactivity: Enjoys taking responsibility for tasks, is process-oriented, and able to work independently while being a self-starter.
  • Collaboration and people-focused: Passion for working with people, understanding their needs, and actively contributing to their success and well-being.
  • Innovation and continuous improvement: Excited to bring new ideas and optimize HR processes for greater efficiency and impact.
  • Knowledge of German Labor Law (preferred but not required): Understanding labor laws will be beneficial for handling legal and compliance matters effectively.
