IT System Administrator (f/m/d) focus: Linux and/or network
The Bundeskartellamt is an independent competition authority within the remit of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The office is located in Bonn. We employ around 450 staff, around half of whom are trained in law or economics. Our task is to safeguard competition.
For some years now, we have been paying particular attention to the fundamental changes in economic activity brought about by digitalization. In addition to a large number of antitrust proceedings in the area of the digital economy - including abuse proceedings against leading internet companies - we use our powers in the area of consumer protection to scrutinize digital business models. In all of these areas, we work together with the EU Commission, the state antitrust authorities and foreign antitrust authorities. In the "Basic Infrastructure" department (D2A), a position is available at the earliest possible date as a
IT system administrator (f/m/d)

to be filled full-time or part-time.
As an innovative authority, the Bundeskartellamt operates a modern information technology system with around 50 employees, which ensures an efficient and secure IT infrastructure, provides IT solutions for future-oriented administration and supports internal business processes in the long term. The Bundeskartellamt's IT supports the specialist departments in performing their diverse and demanding tasks and provides the basis for their daily work: the varied and team-oriented working environment includes both the design and safeguarding of functional IT operations and the planning and implementation of demanding projects.
These interesting areas of responsibility with a focus on Linux await you:
- Development of standards and security-related hardening of Linux server systems (in particular the RedHat and Debian distributions)
- Administration and provision of Linux server systems (in particular the RedHat and Debian distributions) for application operation
- Administration and provision of the central monitoring and syslog infrastructure (in particular based on CheckMK and the Elastic Stack)
These interesting areas of responsibility in the network focus are waiting for you:
- Central management, administration and monitoring of the network infrastructure (including ExtremeNetworks)
- Patch and release management for the network infrastructure
- Administration of network encryption systems at layer 2 level
- Collaboration in the administration of internal firewall systems with regard to network segmentation
- Administration and design of basic network services such as DNS, DHCP and network access control systems
- Implementation of security requirements and hardening of the configuration of network components (e.g. according to BSI basic protection)
What You Need To Bring With You- A bachelor's degree or a diploma from a university of applied sciences in the field of computer science or a comparable degree with an IT-related focus or
- successfully passed a career test for the higher technical or non-technical administrative service or
- demonstrably comparable skills, experience and knowledge;
- willingness to undergo an extended security check in accordance with SÜG.

It Is Also An Advantage- Good knowledge and/or experience in the administration of:
- RedHat and Debian server systems
- Network technology, TCP/IP, switching and routing, use and design of VLANs (including in the context of network access control with dynamic assignment of client networks)
- Monitoring and syslog systems (ins. CheckMK and Elastic Stack)
- Network encryption systems at the Layer 2 level
- Firewall systems
- Basic network services such as DNS and DHCP
- Knowledge of the IT security requirements of the federal administration or willingness to acquire this knowledge
- Strong communication and cooperation skills within your own work unit and with internal and external partners
- Strong ability to work in a team
- Independent, structured and careful way of working
- Good verbal and written communication skills in German
- Subject-specific knowledge of English
Salary And Perspective- The position is permanent in pay group 11 of the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD) with a six-month probationary period.
- Depending on their qualifications and performance, tariff employees may be granted an IT specialist allowance.
- If the prerequisites are met, the aim is to offer civil servant status to tariff employees at a later date.
- If you are already a civil servant, we will seek to second you with the aim of transferring you to the Bundeskartellamt. The post is graded according to salary groups A 10 to A 12 of the Federal Salary Code (BBesO).
- As a civil servant, promotions are possible within the probationary period under civil service law, subject to appropriate performance.
