Job Description:

IT Operations Manager

GDIT provides enterprise-wide and geographically centric mission critical information technology (IT) services in support of the United States Air Force in Europe (USAFE) and subordinate Communications Squadrons located in Germany, Italy, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. The Operations Manager will be tasked with increasing inter-organizational functional team collaboration, integrating information technology support, and incorporating efficiencies associated with ITIL4 best practices in compliance with DoD cybersecurity regulations and orders.

As an IT Operations Manager, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the technology infrastructure of organizations. You will work closely with geographically separated technical teams to ensure the smooth functioning of IT systems and processes. In this job, you need to oversee the day-to-day operations of IT departments that include hardware and software support, network operations, server administration, virtualization, and other related tasks. You should also have strong leadership capabilities to manage a team of IT professionals, create project plans, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery of projects. Additionally, you must develop and implement IT policies and procedures that align with the organization's goals and industry standards. Specific tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Provide management and leadership for personnel providing technical support in a diverse array of technologies within a large geographical area in support of customer requirements. Current sites include, but are not limited to Germany, Turkey, United Kingdom, and Italy.
  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinate supervisors and direct report individual contributors.
  • Work laterally with other organizational line managers to promote implementation of organizational strategic and operational initiatives.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day technology operations of an organization.
  • Attend MCCC briefings, maintain situational awareness, provide recommendations to facilitate USG decision making and subsequent action.
  • Support the development and implementation of IT policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Oversee the development of Service Level agreements; upon establishment, ensure the operation of the enterprise meets or exceeds service level agreements (SLAs) and serves as the point of contact for enterprise operations.
  • Manage and allocate IT resources, such as staffing and budget allocations.
  • Manage the operations human resource/talent acquisition and requisition lifecycle to ensure adequate human resources are available to meet customer requirements.
  • Ensure cybersecurity compliance by applying security principles, practices, and procedures in compliance with applicable security regulations and/or policies.
  • Ensure data security and backup procedures are up-to-date and effective.
  • Facilitate collaboration between departments to maximize information and identify technological solutions to meet business needs.
  • Keep up-to-date with new technologies and developments in the IT field to inform decision-making.
  • Provide effective leadership required to incorporate collaboration that maximizes information flow through the area of operations, increases efficiency during problem resolution.
  • Execute problem management that facilitates communication, resolution, root-cause analysis, lessons learned, and avoidance of recurring issues.
  • Analyze current processes and workflows to help the organization run efficiently and effectively.
  • Provide management, coaching, experience, and oversight to the team members while also maintaining sufficiently trained staff to support customer requirements.
    • Ensure accurate timekeeping records for team.
    • Create, maintain, and ensure accuracy of team schedules.
    • Set goals and evaluate team members to ensure individual performance is aligned with business objectives.
    • Assist career progression for team members by providing education, training, and mentorship.
    • Identify individual areas for improvement or performance issues and give corrective actions as required.
    • Coordinate with teammates and customers across the work centers.
    • Work with internal and external partners to interview, hire and onboard personnel to meet customer requirements.
    • Ensure task assignment, prioritization, completion and reporting for the Systems Administration team.
  • Keep current with business and economic trends to forecast how the business will need to adapt and change over time.

Education/Experience Required:

  • BA/BS in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience with managing enterprise IT teams in geographically separated locations supporting Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of servers (physical and virtual), Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, etc.), databases (SQL, Oracle), collaboration tools (SharePoint, Teams, Jabber), virtualization technology, software applications, scripting, SANs, and computer security in an enterprise.

Certification(s):

  • Required
    • IT Service Management Certification (ITIL v4).
  • Desired
    • IAM III Baseline Certification (CISSP, CISM, etc.).
    • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.

Clearance Required:

  • Interim SECRET clearance to start, ability to obtain and maintain TOP SECRET clearance and SCI access.

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 20% travel required.

Additional Requirements: For Germany and Italy positions, candidate must meet TESA requirements as follows:

Germany:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of recent specialized experience; or
  • Associates Degree and seven (7) years of recent specialized experience; or
  • No degree and 11 years of recent specialized experience.
