Our model for success is a better life for everyone and purposeful tasks for our employees. For more than 50 years, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), as a company of the German Federal Government, has been supporting the implementation of development policy goals worldwide. Together with partner organisations in 120 countries, we are involved in a diverse range of projects. If you want to make a difference in the world and develop yourself in the process, you've come to the right place.
The Global Shield against Climate Risks was launched in 2022 by the G7 under Germany’s presidency and in close partnership with the Vulnerable Twenty Group of Finance Ministers (V20). Through this collaborative partnership, the V20 and the G7 support countries in responding to climate-related losses and damages by increasing access to pre-arranged finance. By facilitating the design and implementation of financial mechanisms that pay out quickly and reliably when disasters strike, the Global Shield strengthens the financial protection of communities, businesses and households affected by climate change and disasters.
The Global Shield Secretariat, which is co-hosted by GIZ and the United Nations University, provides technical, logistical and coordinative support for the implementation of the Global Shield. This entails support for the initiative’s political leadership (Global Shield Board), the coordination of technical and implementation work, and advisory services to Global Shield Partner Countries.
