We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Import/Export Group Manager to oversee the import/export operations concerning aerosol products and intercompany transportation. This role requires in-depth knowledge of tariff classifications and a strong understanding of transportation logistics across multiple international locations. The successful candidate will manage a team to ensure that all customs regulations and tariffs are accurately applied, while also optimizing intercompany transportation strategies and ensuring compliance with all relevant industry guidelines.
Product Tariff Classification: Lead the tariff code classification process for aerosol products, ensuring compliance with international customs regulations. Stay current with changes in regulations and classification criteria for those specific tariff codes.
Manage Intercompany Transportation: Oversee transportation activities related to intercompany shipments, ensuring efficient and cost-effective movement of goods between company locations in various regions.
Customs Compliance: Ensure compliance with import/export laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions, particularly focusing on aerosol product classifications, labeling, and documentation. Act as the primary point of contact for audits and customs inquiries.
Regulatory Knowledge: Continuously monitor updates to tariff codes, hazardous material classifications (for aerosols), and transportation regulations. Implement strategies to address changes in laws or trade agreements that impact intercompany transportation or aerosol product shipments.
Documentation and Compliance: Oversee the preparation of necessary customs documentation, such as commercial invoices, certificates of origin, hazardous material declarations, tariff codes, and other compliance forms, to ensure smooth and compliant cross-border shipments.
Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop local plant relays responsible for tariff code classification, customs compliance, and intercompany logistics. Provide guidance on best practices, training, and compliance adherence.
Optimization of Transportation Strategies: Evaluate and optimize intercompany transportation methods, including coordinating with supply chain, logistics, and warehouse teams to ensure efficient and cost-effective transportation solutions.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product management, legal, supply chain, and regional teams to ensure that intercompany transportation needs are met and tariff codes are accurately applied. Address and resolve any intercompany transportation or tariff-related issues.
Risk Management & Cost Control: Proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with incorrect tariff classifications, hazardous materials compliance, or transportation delays. Monitor costs related to intercompany shipping and recommend improvements.
Training & Support: Provide training on aerosol product regulations, hazardous material compliance, and intercompany transportation processes to internal stakeholders.
Reporting & Analytics: Generate reports on tariff code accuracy, customs clearance status, intercompany transportation efficiency, and compliance to share with senior management and external stakeholders as needed.
Your profile
Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
5+ years of experience in import/export operations
Proven experience in intercompany transportation logistics and cross-border shipping
In-depth knowledge of HS tariff codes, customs compliance, and international trade regulations
Strong experience with international shipping documentation, including tariff code material declarations and other regulatory forms
Expertise in managing complex international logistics operations, particularly within intercompany frameworks
Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
Ability to handle high-stakes regulatory issues, compliance audits, and operational challenges
Familiarity with trade compliance systems, ERP tools (SAP), and shipping platforms
Certification in customs compliance, international trade is a plus
Fluency in English; a second language (French, German, Spanish) will be a plus
Experience working with aerosol-specific packaging regulations is a plus
Knowledge of Incoterms, free trade agreements, and their application in intercompany transactions
