Global Disease Lead, Bone & Endocrinology

Alexion’s Global Marketing and Market Access team (GMMA) is an integrated strategy and operations team, with the core objective to develop disease and brand commercial and access strategies, as well as global marketing materials and negotiation strategies, while working closely with markets for implementation. The team diligently monitors the performance of the business and the effectiveness of our strategies, helping to position our brands for sustained long-term access and success. Additionally, the GMMA team delivers commercial strategies for our pipeline programs and establishes commercial marketing and access strategies for new product launches. You will be responsible for:
- Disease Strategic Leadership: Serve as the strategic leader and key influencer for Rare Bone & Endocrinology, overseeing vision, strategy, tactics, and resource allocation. Responsible for coordinating organizational disease strategy across all functions, including Commercial, Research & Development, Medical, and HEOR functions to drive future growth and leadership surrounding the disease.
- Portfolio Strategy: Contribute to the broader Therapeutic Area strategy
- Global Commercialization Strategy Development: Formulate and implement global commercialization disease strategies, launch plans and tactical plans. Assist core markets in adapting and executing these strategies, ensuring best practices are shared and global strategy is synchronized across functions to optimize business performance.
- Launch Planning:
- Collaborating with GPTs and cross functional partners, accountable for ensuring organization launch readiness both at the global and local level for new assets (i.e., eneboparatide and efzimfotase alfa)
- Competitive Strategy: Oversee strategies to prepare for and address current and forthcoming competition in global markets.
- Business Case Development: Lead the creation and endorsement of business cases for senior management, including Regional Heads and various leadership teams. Responsibilities include:
- Gathering cross-functional inputs
- Analyzing business environment and key events
- Crafting clear, evidence-based recommendations
- Presenting materials at governance meetings
- P&L Oversight: Take ownership of the disease-specific P&L, including:
- Forecasting long-term disease revenue
- Reviewing country-level revenue and profitability plans
- Coordinating with finance to assess performance
- Inform adequate resource planning for market preparation and pipeline assets
- Implementing tactical decisions to meet business objectives
- Proposing investments to optimize regional therapeutic area potential
- Review and provide the overarching commercial perspective for P&R strategies for the disease and individual markets (top 20)
- Strategic Project Execution: Partner with cross-functional teams to plan and execute mid to long-term strategic initiatives that promote growth and market differentiation.
- Co/lead and / or Engage with Global Product/Medicine Teams, which may involve delegation to team members. Key activities include:
- Delivery of the Target Product Profile (TPP) for products
- Concluding pivotal and pediatric studies, as well as post-marketing requirements
- Monitoring program timelines, milestones, risks, and deliverables
- Overseeing submissions, approvals, and launches across the globe
- Creating strategies for value generation
- Delivery of governance-approved business cases within tolerance on time, cost and quality, working with functional management as required to resolve issues
- Where appropriate, advise on clinical trial design and geographic site selection
- Provide strategic guidance on global life-cycle management
- Partner across the Global Marketing & Market Access Team:
- With Global Market Access to deliver a sustainable pricing and access strategy for multiple products and indications
- With Global Market Insights to identify key business and market dynamics for continuous improvement of strategy, positioning, development and growth of the portfolio
- With Global Launch Excellence to effectively ready the organization for launch strategies & execution
- With Global Portfolio Analytics for long-term forecasting & business case development
- Team Leadership: Guide and develop a team of senior managers to achieve business objectives and ensure compliance with regulations. This includes coaching for performance enhancement and fostering a supportive work environment.
- Attract, develop and retain top talent on the Disease Global Marketing Team
You will need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Medical or Life sciences degree
- 10+ years pharmaceutical commercial experience
- Strong leadership in biopharmaceuticals ideally in rare diseases where patients are an utmost priority
- A demonstrated track record of success and progression in commercial positions both at Country level (GM or BU Head) and at Regional or Global level
- Proven track record for managing P&L for a sizable business either at the country level or at the international level and managing large local and/or international teams
- Ability to manage highly complex environments with multiple disease areas including a mix of in-line and new indications, existing and new products in Rare Bone & Endocrinology therapeutic area
- An in-depth technical knowledge in all commercialization aspects (commercial, market access and medical) and most preferably strong knowledge of the disease areas of interest
- Strong knowledge of business and financial planning, high level of financial acumen and attention to detail
- Broad cultural orientation, with experience of working outside local market or in an international context.
- Fluency in English and ideally additional European Languages
- Recent track record of successfully overseeing product launches in local market, ideally for rare or orphan disease(s); has successfully worked in a competitive environment.
- Success in market shaping activities to establish the unmet need in a disease area.
- Successful track record in leading high performing cross functional teams.
- Successful track record in working and delivering in a highly matrixed global environment.
- Confident leader comfortable communicating and engaging across all levels in the organization, as well as maintaining calm composure, presenting, and influencing at senior levels
- Strong Project Management skills and the ability to coordinate and drive complex projects through the matrix
