PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Field Service Engineer — Medium Voltage is responsible for performing warranty repairs, technical support, and testing the internals of SMA Medium Voltage products. Duties include MVT core testing, troubleshooting, repairing, analyzing data, operations, and maintenance activity for MV Products. This job requires working with medium/high voltage electricity and maintaining excellent customer service activities while in the field at customer sites.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and analyzes SMA's MV systems in the field, via email, telephone, and site visits
- Develops a detailed knowledge of SMA's Medium Voltage products, associated SMA and/or third party accessories sold by SMA
- Required to maintain accurate inventory count of spare parts provided by SMA
- Regularly works with medium/high voltage DC electricity, three-phase power, and the related software and firmware of SMA products
- Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction while striving to lower the costs of field service expenditures
- Collaborate cross functionally with the Global Service Organization, Quality and Suppliers to provide customers with Root Cause Analysis of failures. Additionally responsible for keeping customers informed of the RCA status.
- Perform and maintain maintenance activities in accordance with the SMA product maintenance manual on assigned sites with SMA customer contractual obligations.
- Requires the ability to work weekend and/or nights on a case by case basis.

REQUIRED TRAINING (TYPE / DURATION / FIELD / ADDITIONAL TRAINING)
- A Bachelor's degree in a technical field is strongly preferred.
REQUIRED RELEVANT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE (TYPE / DURATION)
- At least 3 years of experience in electrical, electronic and/or network communications are required.
- At least 3 years of experience with Medium Voltage equipment is required.
- Prior experience with cold weld patch repairs and field transformer repairs is required.
- Experience with pad mounted transformers, Medium Voltage Terminations and operation of Switchgears is preferred.
OTHER SPECIALIZED SKILLS
- Ability to work non-standard business hours occasionally to support service customer contracts
- Knowledge of solar and/or alternative energy markets is preferred
- Knowledge of National Electric Code is preferred
- Advanced knowledge of power plant measurement devices and techniques is strongly preferred
- Ability to analyze and solve problems effectively
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) is required
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to travel, stand, walk, talk, hear, look and see
- The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach above the shoulder, stoop, bend, squat, and kneel.
- The employee must routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
- Have direct interface with German Counterparts for technical assistance and guidance on MV systems and attend meetings with them on a daily or weekly basis
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Compensation Range: $28-32 per hour
