The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society. We are looking for a

Teaching Fellow - European City Leadership Programme (gn)

20 hours per week, initially limited until 30 June 2025, with the opportunity to prolong for 4 more years and transition to full-time within the project duration. The successful candidate will join our Executive Education team and work on the European City Leadership Programme.

About the European City Leadership Programme (ECLP)

Hertie School Executive Education, together with LSE Cities is preparing to launch a pioneering European City Leadership Programme (ECLP) for mayors and their teams. The programme will include world class executive education delivered both virtually and in-person at sites across Europe. This essential capability-building work will be accompanied by rapid-fire research and experimentation, informed by mayors' real-world challenges to generate practical resources and data for city leaders.

This initiative is designed to support mayors and senior city officials across Europe in implementing transformative solutions to urban challenges. With a federated training ecosystem spanning LSE in London and the Hertie School in Berlin, and the support of global knowledge partners, ECLP equips cities with the tools to address core challenges through a mission-driven government innovation approach. Each city team, comprising the mayor and two senior leaders, enters the programme with a targeted mission to advance strategic solutions for their city.

Your tasks:

The Executive Education Teaching Fellow will be a vital member of the ECLP Academic Direction Team at the Hertie School, providing dedicated support to the Lead Academic Director in the design and delivery of the ECLP curriculum for senior city leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Programme support: Assist in planning, organizing, developing, and executing programme sessions to ensure a smooth, engaging, and impactful participant experience.
• Participant engagement: Act as a primary point of contact for participants, providing guidance on substantive aspects of programme design, addressing questions, and resolving challenges.
• Academic collaboration: Work closely with the Lead Academic Director to deliver content and reinforce the programme's academic rigor and relevance.
• Content development: Support the enhancement of session content by preparing materials, presentations, and other resources alongside the Lead Academic Director and faculty.
• Research and programme customization: Conduct research on participating cities to ensure programme content aligns with their unique profiles, allowing for tailored, impactful solutions.
• Feedback and programme improvement: Collect and analyse participant feedback to identify areas for improvement, refining future sessions based on real-time insights.

Your profile:

• Educational Background: MA in Public Policy, Urban Studies, Business Administration, Education, or a related field. A PhD is advantageous but not required,
• Academic and/or professional background in local government, governance, and/or leadership and skills development, along with a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience,
• Teaching or moderation experience is an asset,
• Strong facilitation, communication, and engagement skills suited for high-level participants,
• Organizational skills with attention to detail,
• Professionalism, adaptability, and a collaborative, proactive mindset suited to a dynamic, team-oriented, multicultural setting,
• Fluency in English is required; proficiency in German is highly desirable.
