Embedded Software Developer for Vehicle Connectivity (m/w/d)

As an Embedded Software Developer in the Digital Solutions Department at Cubonic GmbH, you will focus on developing software for vehicle connectivity systems, particularly in areas related to logging, over-the-air (OTA) updates, vehicle diagnostics, and cybersecurity. Your role is crucial in ensuring the secure and efficient operation of our electric vehicles. You will work closely with the development team, cloud architects, and cybersecurity experts to deliver robust and scalable solutions.

Your main activities in this position

  • Embedded Software Development: Design and implement embedded software for vehicle connectivity, with a focus on logging, OTA updates, vehicle diagnostics, and cybersecurity.
  • Logging and Data Management: Develop solutions for effective data logging and management, ensuring that vehicle data is securely and efficiently collected, stored, and transmitted.
  • OTA Implementation: Develop and maintain secure OTA update processes to ensure vehicles receive timely and safe firmware and software updates.
  • Vehicle Diagnostics: Work on embedded systems that enable real-time vehicle diagnostics, leveraging protocols like UDS to ensure accurate and efficient diagnostic operations.
  • Cybersecurity Integration: Collaborate with cybersecurity experts to integrate security measures within the connectivity systems, protecting vehicle data and communications.
  • Testing & Troubleshooting: Perform tests, error analysis, and troubleshooting to ensure software reliability and security.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for all developed software and processes, ensuring they meet internal standards and support future developments.

Required Qualifications

  • Embedded Programming Skills: Proficiency in hardware-related programming languages (e.g., C, C++) with experience in embedded software development.
  • Operating Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with embedded operating systems such as Linux, QNX, FreeRTOS, or similar platforms.
  • Firmware and OTA Experience: Experience in managing firmware updates, including secure OTA processes.
  • Diagnostics Protocols: Knowledge of vehicle diagnostics protocols, particularly UDS, and experience in implementing diagnostic features in embedded systems.
  • Networking and Communication: Understanding of network protocols (e.g., REST) and automotive bus protocols (e.g., CAN, Ethernet).
  • Cybersecurity Awareness: Basic understanding of cybersecurity practices, particularly in the automotive domain.

Also nice to have:

  • Cybersecurity Expertise: Additional experience in automotive cybersecurity, particularly in protecting vehicle data and communications.
  • Cloud Technologies: Familiarity with cloud services, such as Google Automotive Cloud or AWS, and their application in connected vehicle environments.
  • Automotive Experience: Some background in the automotive sector, including knowledge of the ISO 26262 standard, is advantageous.
  • Telecommunication Standards: Understanding of telecommunication standards and modems, such as LTE, to support secure vehicle-to-cloud and vehicle-to-vehicle communication.
