Come and do your life’s work - Why we do what we do

Phlair unleashes CO2's potential through breakthrough innovation. We rapidly deploy Direct Air Capture technology, facilitating the removal and reuse of CO2 at scale.

For decades, fossil fuels served as the backbone and feedstock of our economy – with the downside of polluting our atmosphere. We invert this equation by developing a cost-efficient and scalable electrochemical Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. We have cracked the nut here by developing a breakthrough hydrolizer for acid/base regeneration, allowing us to capture CO2 from ambient air for either permanent storage or as a precursor for CO2-negative chemicals. For this, we collaborate with leading customers like Frontier Climate, Stripe, Shopify, and Klarna.

We are looking for highly ambitious and motivated individuals who are ready to work their a** off to have a lasting impact on the planet. Your ideas will set the foundation and shape the future of our company.

At Phlair, we're committed to creating a high-performing and inclusive environment where every voice is heard and valued. You can find more on our culture here.

Join our team of world-class scientists, engineers, and passionate entrepreneurs. All qualified applicants are given fair consideration and women are strongly encouraged to apply - Come as you are!

What you’ll need

Hard skills that are necessary for this role

  • You have a master's in process engineering, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering with a strong theoretical foundation in thermodynamics and mass transport phenomena.
  • You have experience in using chemical process simulation tools, e.g. Aspen Plus/Hysys, Siemens gProms, Unisim, or COMSOL Multiphysics.
  • You have a solid grasp of process design and optimization.
  • You are proficient in at least one programming language.
  • You bring fundamental knowledge in thermodynamics or mass transport phenomena.

Soft skills that are necessary for this role

  • You like to work independently and are able to manage your own project serving an overarching Key Result.
  • You have good self-management skills and know how to prioritize different multifaceted tasks at the same time.
  • You are a transferal thinker and team player with a critical mindset.
  • You are good at explaining technically complex things in simple words.
  • You are resilient and able to go the extra mile.

What we offer you

  • Attractive compensation package, including stock options in the company.
  • Minimum of 30 days of vacation per year, which includes 2 days of recreational leave.
  • Financial support with your move to Munich.
  • Free public transportation ticket for all of Germany.
  • A fitness subscription to EGYM Wellpass, so you can clear your head in your time out of the office.
  • Free team lunch every Thursday with our amazing chef.

Here is our website; we recommend you check the career page! A great read is also the TechCrunch article on our technology and a piece by our lead investor Extantia on the future of DAC.

We are the first EU and German DAC company to be selected by Frontier Climate. Frontier is a buyers' club for high-quality carbon removal credits, i.e. a certificate validating the permanent (for >1,000 years!) and additional (to natural processes) removal of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, thereby curbing global warming.

Benefit and grow from our network: You will have access to an extensive group of leaders. We can provide 1-to-1 mentoring with investors, engineering advisors, or our business angels from startups, consulting, and industry.

Great to have, but optional

  • You have a strong analytical mindset and first principles thinking.
  • You bring experience in data science/informatics.

Your mission at Phlair

Your mission: Together with our CTO Paul, you will work on increasing the efficiency of our Direct Air Capture process by setting up a digital twin and evaluating the impact of changing process parameters.

  • Setup a digital twin of our process in Aspen Plus.
  • Modeling of specifically complex process parts such as the absorber unit.
  • Techno-Economic Assessment with regards to system design.
  • Perform sensitivity analysis on levelized capture costs by change of process parameters.
  • Evaluate most impactful process improvements (in terms of techno-economics) based on first-principled assessment.

Your targets are an important roadmap, but nothing is set in stone in the startup world.

At Phlair, we understand that it is crucial to have the ability to quickly adapt to the market environment and a very new sector being shaped under our eyes. This means that we highly value flexible team members, who embrace a changing environment and thrive when working autonomously, learning while doing.
