Job Description:

We are looking for an exceptional individual to join ExoMatter as a Senior Scientific Developer. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the intersection between software engineering and the scientific research within our company to further develop our Materials R&D platform.

Become part of a young deep tech and software startup based in Munich and revolutionize materials development with us. ExoMatter is a spin-off of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and part of the UnternehmerTUM family of startups. We have a first product on the market with paying customers like Airbus and BSH and a strong upward trajectory.

Why are we doing this?

Our mission is to challenge the status quo of materials development to reduce the worldwide ecological footprint and increase the innovation speed.

We need you to succeed!

Do you think along these lines?

  • If you are equally convinced that only with more efficient materials, can we tackle the climate crisis
  • You are a maker and want to turn visions into reality. See your impact directly!

You love working in a dynamic team: trusting, exchanging feedback, and taking responsibility is most crucial.

Tasks

As a Senior Scientific Developer, you will join the Engineering Team to define and monitor requirements for the development of new scientific features for material calculation on our platform.

  • You work at the intersection of software engineering and computational materials science and at the forefront of our product development.
  • You are a coordinator in an expert role without management responsibility.
  • You will analyze what is required from a scientific and software engineering perspective to build new scientific features on our platform.
  • You will write specifications for new features and monitor the progress of their development on a daily basis.
  • You will report directly to the CTO.

Requirements

Ideally, you have a background both in (computational) materials science and Software Engineering at a software company.

  • You hold a degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Materials Engineering or similar, ideally with a PhD.
  • You are familiar with materials simulation methods such as DFT.
  • You have experience in materials simulation both in the space of polymers and inorganic materials.
  • You have full-time work experience in software development, ideally beyond academia.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English; German skills are a plus.
  • You live in Munich or want to move to Munich within 3-4 months and are then willing to work ca. 50% of your time on-site.
  • Experience working on AI/ML within Materials Science.

We find better Materials for a better future. ExoMatter developed an AI-based data-driven materials R&D platform to help manufacturing companies find better materials faster with an edge in cost, sustainability, and performance data. We create a shortlist of the top-ten material candidates from theoretical datasets with millions of materials specifically for the customer’s application. We do so through data mining & machine learning, enriching the data with our own calculations and applying a multidimensional optimization algorithm (e.g. performance, cost, CO2 footprint).
