MAJOR FUNCTION:

The Campus Police Officer reports directly to a Campus Police Sergeant. This position patrols campus buildings and grounds while enforcing laws, rules, and regulations on campus. The Campus Police Officer provides escort services on campus, relieves or substitutes for Campus Police Dispatchers, and locks and unlocks doors. Provides general information; public relations; traffic assistance (directs traffic, attends to traffic crashes, assists with parking problems); writes thorough and complete reports on investigations, complaints, student conduct violations, and security issues using proper grammar and logical sentence construction. Performs security and safety duties at off-campus facilities that are owned, operated, or utilized by the College.

• Provides escort services on campus and relief or substitutes for Campus Police Dispatchers.
• Locks and unlocks doors.
• Performs security and safety duties at off-campus facilities owned, operated, or utilized by the College.
• Establishes public relations and provides general information.
• Provides traffic assistance (directs traffic, attends to traffic accidents, assists with parking problems).
• Writes reports on investigations, complaints, security issues, and reports observed safety hazards.
• Collects, prepares, and documents evidence and testifies in court.

MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Requires graduation from a standard high school or equivalency diploma and one year of law enforcement experience. Must meet the requirements of Chapter 943, Florida Statute. Two years of active and continuous military or other appropriate public contact experience may substitute for the required experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational training may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis at the rate of 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university, or 720 classroom hours from a vocational or technical school. Preference will be given to applicants with Florida Law Enforcement certification and one year of law enforcement experience.
