A future with tradition - shaping science: Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) offers a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and medicine. The oldest and largest university in Saxony-Anhalt was founded in 1817 from the merger of the universities in Wittenberg (1502) and Halle (1694). Today it has 340 professors and 20,000 students. Its research focuses on the material and life sciences, the Enlightenment and social and cultural research.

The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Faculty of Natural Sciences II, Institute of Physics, is seeking to fill the position of a research assistant, initially limited until 31 December 2027, at the earliest possible date, a Research Assistant (m-w-d) to be filled part-time (50 %).

Depending on the tasks assigned and fulfilment of the personal requirements, remuneration will be paid up to pay group 13 TV-L.

Work tasks:

  1. Scientific work on project B6, "Batteries made from sustainable materials"
  2. Planning and conducting electrochemical experiments for advanced electrodes in post-Li/Na batteries
  3. Conduct innovative research in electrode synthesis, structural optimization, and high-tech characterization techniques
  4. Mechanistic studies of battery degradation and performance enhancement
  5. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of researchers and industry partners
  6. Preparation of scientific publications and patents

The opportunity to gain your own academic qualification as part of a doctorate is given.

Requirements:

  1. A completed scientific university degree (Master’s, Diploma, or equivalent) in natural sciences, engineering, electrochemistry, materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related field.
  2. Experience with experimental techniques such as SEM, TEM, XRD, or battery testing is advantageous
  3. Scientific curiosity for elucidating the bottlenecks of state-of-the-art next generations battery materials and designs
  4. Ability for scientifically rigorous, target-oriented, organized, and independent work
  5. Good communication and teamwork skills, inventiveness, and a proactive hands-on approach are essential qualifications
  6. Applicants are expected to contribute to a safe and inclusive working environment
  7. Good English language skills
