Within Climate Change Solutions, The NatCatSERVICE (NCS) is Munich Re´s central data base and analytics platform for natural catastrophe global market losses. Renowned as one of the leading databases for natural catastrophe losses, NCS is widely sought after by media, investors, governments and clients for insights into Natural Catastrophe trends, risks and resilience.
The NCS:
- Supports internal and external communications, from media publications to Market events, cementing Munich Re’s position as a trusted voice in this area.
- Supports our clients, client managers and underwriters in understanding market dynamics, offering a global market perspective.
- Enhances corporate underwriting models and claims estimations by serving as a global alternative source of data — leveraging unique insights that go beyond traditional data sources.
This position will be key to revolutionizing how NatCat data is collected, analyzed, enriched, and presented, unlocking new efficiencies and insights. The position is a senior position and will be responsible for the NatCatSERVICE.
YOUR JOB
- Leadership and Ownership: lead the team as the senior responsible for delivering accurate loss estimates for major NatCat events, including press releases, interviews, industry events, etc.
- Global NatCat Market Expertise: develop and leverage a deep understanding of global NatCat loss estimation methodologies and insurance market dynamics.
- Automation Project Management: drive further automation of NCS using AI, data processing and visualization elements.
- Data Analytics and Insights: deliver actionable analytics and insights, enhancing the database for internal and external stakeholders.
- IT Process Oversight: as the IT Product owner - Challenge and oversee IT-related processes to guarantee seamless integration and effective automation within the NatCatSERVICE.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: keep all stakeholders informed and aligned throughout at all levels, building a deep network to internal key stakeholders (Claims, Underwriting, Data Analytics, Group Communications, Client management) for the purpose of NatCat loss estimation.
- Auditability: drive transparency and consistency by establishing robust processes for data collection and enhancement, ensuring clear documentation.
YOUR PROFILE
- Natural Catastrophe and insurance market Expertise: proven ability to estimate losses from natural catastrophes, ideally supported by insurance market experience.
- Technical proficiency and project management: project management and experience in data process automation using e.g. using LLMs, AI, python and power BI or similar.
- Education: university degree in data science, economics, statistics, geo and/or natural sciences, or similar qualification but will consider others.
- Attention to Detail: ability to perform thorough checks while maintaining a pragmatic, big-picture perspective with an affinity for numbers, statistics and data driven solutions.
- Communication and Coordination: excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to manage cross-functional collaboration and ensure timely, professional and high-quality delivery.
- Languages: very good English, German and other languages skills are advantageous.
