Customer Solutions & Innovation (CSI) is DHL's cross-divisional commercial and innovation unit. We are responsible for managing about 100 of DHL's largest and most strategically important customers providing them with sector expertise, best in class account management and most innovative products & solutions.
Tasks:
As Director of Sector Development for one of CSI's focus sectors, you spearhead the development and execution of DHL’s sector strategy, working in alignment with the CSI Global Sector President and key divisional stakeholders. Your responsibilities encompass a broad spectrum of strategic and operational activities:
- Thought Leadership: Identify sector trends and their logistics implications, uncover strategic growth areas, and explore innovative product and solution opportunities to shape the sector's direction.
- Priority Setting: Define the sector roadmap, establishing strategic business priorities and targeted initiatives around solution development, business growth, and customer engagement.
- Market Positioning: Develop detailed sector objectives to create a compelling go-to-market strategy, collaborating closely with the SCD marketing team on campaigns and events.
- Project Management: Actively contribute to delivering the sector roadmap by leading or participating in cross-DHL projects and growth initiatives.
- Stakeholder Alignment: Build and nurture strong relationships with senior management across business divisions and within the CSI organization.
- Engagement: Collaborate with senior customer representatives to enhance sector expertise, demonstrate thought leadership, and unlock business opportunities.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Develop Sector & Marketing Strategy and Drive Priority Roadmap
- Lead the annual update of DHL’s sector and marketing strategy in close collaboration with divisions and CSI stakeholders.
- Define a comprehensive sector roadmap, outlining business objectives, initiatives, and action plans aligned with strategic priorities (e.g., subsectors, products, solutions, enablers, geographies).
- Translate business objectives into actionable marketing priorities, detailing supporting activities in partnership with CSI Marketing.
- Oversee execution and success tracking of the sector and marketing roadmap, while driving key strategic projects and growth initiatives within the sector.
- Build Thought Leadership and Shape Direction
- Harness insights from market trends, supply chain dynamics, and customer needs to develop thought leadership topics and engage in relevant forums.
- Identify opportunities for innovative product and solution development, offering recommendations for business expansion in emerging growth areas.
- Monitor competitor activities and provide strategic responses.
- Maintain and enhance the sector fact base, updating knowledge on market trends, analytics, and customer intelligence for both current and prospective portfolios.
Engage with Customers & DHL Sector Community
- Collaborate with senior customer representatives, leading agenda and content creation for workshops and events.
- Support the development of the DHL sector community by sharing expertise and promoting best practice exchanges across sectors.
- Build and strengthen relationships with BU senior management and sector experts to ensure alignment and consistency in sector strategy across DHL.
DELIVERABLES:
- A comprehensive Sector Roadmap outlining business objectives, initiatives, and action plans, aligned with the Sector Senior Management Team.
- An aligned Marketing Roadmap featuring prioritized initiatives, clearly defined success criteria, and actionable campaigns and events.
- Successful execution of selected prioritized initiatives, with regular progress updates and performance tracking for the sector and marketing roadmap.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in strategy development, consulting roles, and marketing-related activities.
- Extensive project management expertise, including leading virtual and cross-functional project teams.
- 8+ years of professional experience, with 2-3 years in leadership roles (preferred).
- Industry expertise and prior experience in at least one DHL division (preferred).
- University degree in business or a related field.
- Extensive experience in project management and strategy development, with the ability to design, implement, and manage global, cross-BU programs and strategies.
- Deep understanding of sector market dynamics, logistics challenges, and emerging trends.
- General knowledge of DHL’s business models across divisions.
- Strong conceptual thinking and analytical abilities.
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
- Outstanding stakeholder relationship management skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to engage effectively at senior levels.
- Strong commercial and marketing acumen.
- Experience in product R&D and innovation is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
