Carpentry Technician –ALIZÉ – Resident Shows Division

Full-Time Position

We are looking for a Carpenter Technician to join our Carpentry Team. The main objective of this role is to run multiple show tracks in an efficient and safe manner, in accordance with Cirque du Soleil standards and policies. They will also need to accomplish daily maintenance, inspections and training per the artistic schedule. All Technicians will be expected to work with other departments to accomplish the daily needs of the room. The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to critically analyze problems to find solutions and will have strong organization skills.

The Carpentry Technician will have the opportunity to:

  1. Run cue tracks to position scenic elements and related equipment as directed for performances, artist training and maintenance;
  2. Inspect, maintain and repair backstage areas and stage equipment;
  3. Update maintenance and inspection records, as directed;
  4. Maintain all department documentation related to the maintenance, operation, etc. of equipment, systems and tracks;
  5. Assist with inventory by identifying any additional equipment that may be required and communicate with Lead when necessary;
  6. Participate in special projects, including the construction and installation of new show elements, and other projects that include department elements or other needs that may fall within the department’s specialty, as directed;
  7. Cooperate with other departments to ensure safe training, rehearsal and show environments;
  8. Develop a thorough knowledge of all department equipment specific to the production in order to operate equipment safely;
  9. Adhere to and actively promote all applicable German occupational safety and health regulations, including DGUV standards, the Arbeitsschutzgesetz (ArbSchG), and industry-specific guidelines, to ensure the safe operation of all technical and performance-related elements of the production; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
  10. Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;
  11. Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.

What does it take for this role? The following hard skills are the basics of what’s needed to be successful in this position:

  1. At least one year of previous experience as a professional Stage Carpenter working on large-scale productions;
  2. Previous experience working as a run crew technician and running show cue tracks;
  3. Advanced power and hand tool skills;
  4. Standard theatrical construction technique experience;
  5. Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and Outlook);
  6. The following qualifications are considered an asset to have:
  7. Knowledge of basic mechanics, electricity and electronics;
  8. Previous experience in finish carpentry or scenic painting;
  9. Welding certification;
  10. Previous experience working with metal, wood working, rigging, welding, mechanical and pneumatic;
  11. Formal fall protection and overall safety training;
  12. Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays;
  13. Qualified Event Technology Specialist (Fachkraft für Veranstaltungstechnik);
  14. Certification or experience in handling stage machinery, rigging, and safety equipment (e.g., Sachkundeprüfung, IPAF certification);
  15. High School Diploma and or GED required; Completed Ausbildung as Veranstaltungstechniker/in (Event Technician) or equivalent qualification in stage technology.
  16. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; operating various lifts and heavy equipment; lifting at least 50lbs unassisted, etc.; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer.   17. Fluent in English, both written and spoken; Ability to clearly and effectively communicate via headset; with an international cast the operational language will be English;
  18. Verification of the right to work in Germany for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group.
