In this context, a new academic position at the Assistant Professor level (tenure-track) has been opened. Accordingly, Constructor University invites applications from interested candidates for the following position, to be filled ideally by August 2025:

Assistant Professor of Computer Science (Scalable Data Processing Systems) (m/f/d)

(full time; 38.5 hrs./week; tenure track)

Your responsibilities:

You will support our research and teaching activities in the field of Computer Science by establishing an independent research group focusing on research topics related to Scalable Data Processing Systems. Possible areas of interest are:

  • NoSQL Databases
  • Database Management and Systems
  • Data Warehousing and Mining
  • Cloud Computing and Big Data Technologies
  • Remote Access and Edge Computing
  • Data-Driven Software Systems and Analytics
  • Distributed and Parallel Databases
  • Spatial-Temporal Data Management, e.g., Geo-Information-Systems (GIS)
  • Machine Learning for Database Optimization and Query Processing

The successful candidate is expected to support teaching in Computer Science at the Bachelor and Master level (for example Database Management Systems, Advanced Database Systems, Data Warehousing and Big Data Technologies, Cloud Computing Fundamentals); as well as develop and implement innovative, pedagogically sound approaches to online, hybrid and in-person teaching and learning; advise students on their studies; and supervise Bachelor, Master’s and PhD theses and research projects.

Your qualifications and experience:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related discipline
  • A proven track record of research in areas such as database systems, data science, or cloud computing, demonstrated by high-quality publications
  • Experience teaching in higher education with a commitment to innovation in curriculum design and delivery, including online and hybrid modes
  • Demonstrable experience in leading or collaborating on funded research projects, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches and real-world applications
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and experience in mentoring students across undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Fluency in English, the language of instruction and communication on campus

The position offered is tenure track, with review of performance after a first contract of three and a second contract after another three years. Successful evaluation leads to permanence and typically promotion to associate professor level.
