The mining area is located 185 km southeast of Iquique, at 4,400 meters above sea level, in Tarapacá Region. The main objective of Doña Inés de Collahuasi’s project is to increase the concentrator’s throughput capacity from an average of 170 ktpd to 210 ktpd. Currently, the awarded service corresponds to the execution of Package PG1 - the first of three packages contemplated for this project - which involves the detailed engineering and procurement (EP) of six flotation cells, and on-site support during the construction phase. Service for package PG1, which began on August 1, 2023, is a continuation of the study phase (FEL3) and is expected to be completed in February 2025.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be required to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of design on a project to incorporate that information into the P&ID diagrams. Knowing applicable industry standards and codes, accepting design practices and quality standards for a global business unit.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supporting and reviewing preparation of P&ID diagrams, flow diagrams, and if required, detailed 2-D and 3-D CAD models.
  • Supporting generation lists of lines, valves, and mechanical equipment.
  • Monitoring and checking work for compliance with approved design standards, providing quality design, reliable plant operation and construction economy.
  • Preparing design and drafting procedures to standardize efforts.
  • Coordinating or making jobsite visits to resolve problems and interpret drawings/documents.
  • Reviewing or defining engineering scope changes for project management.
  • Endorsing or preparing reports on work progress for project and discipline use.
  • Helping create a work environment fostering openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires Higher Level Technician degree or similar in Design/Drawing of Engineering projects (or international equivalent) and 8 -10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience. Requires experience as a Technical Designer in a Mechanical discipline and experience in the mining area, with over 10 years of professional experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Specialized training in drawing, design, standards, and engineering design practices.
  • Knowledge of Smart Plant P&ID software.
  • Understanding of Engineering process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment in concentrator plants and mining projects, understanding of engineering and construction materials related to the discipline’s design responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, piping, and processes, and knowledge of equipment and material fabrication sequencing along with knowledge of procurement and quantity control procedures for bulk materials.
  • Desirable knowledge in programs like Markup Insight, Naviswork, Power Bi, Data Broker, Aconex.
  • Familiarity with Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), industry and regulatory standards, design criteria, and codes.
  • Knowledge of discipline Design Guides, mathematical formulas, and design calculations.
  • Understanding of technical responsibilities of other groups involved in the design effort.
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) relevant to the discipline.
