Job Title: Laboratory Manager - Civil/Asphalt

Status: Full-Time, Permanent

McAsphalt offers a wide range of asphalt products, including emulsions, cutbacks, polymer-modified, performance-graded and roofing, and specialized transportation of those products by rail, land and water. Additionally, McAsphalt provides comprehensive services and technology solutions, encompassing paving, testing, research and development, engineering, and consulting.

Position Summary

At McAsphalt, our laboratories are where quality is proven, innovation is enabled, and trust is built. We are seeking a Laboratory Manager for Western Canada who leads with respect, acts with commitment, pioneers better ways of working, and believes in sharing knowledge to strengthen both people and outcomes.

Reporting directly to the Regional Vice President, Western Canada, this role is accountable for delivering laboratory excellence that supports operations, customers, and long-term business performance across the region.

  • New or improved testing methods, workflows, or technologies have been successfully implemented

Key Leadership Outcomes
  • Lead day-to-day laboratory operations supporting QA/QC testing for hot mix, cold mix, FDR, and asphalt emulsions

  • Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and fit for purpose
  • Maintain strong documentation control, data integrity, and sample management practices
  • Champion laboratory health and safety and ensure alignment with corporate and regulatory requirements
  • Support budgeting, capital planning, and prioritization of laboratory resources
  • Provide technical insight and decision support to the Regional Vice President and cross-functional partners
What You Bring
  • Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 7+ years of progressive laboratory or materials testing experience, including people leadership
  • Strong technical knowledge of asphalt materials, mix design, and road construction principles
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and deliver consistent quality outcomes
  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety, regulatory compliance, and audit expectations
  • Clear, confident communication and technical writing skills
  • A leadership approach grounded in collaboration, curiosity, and continuous improvement
  • Strong organizational discipline and attention to detail
