Home to the city region’s latest tech news and most exciting events, Leeds Digital is a full-service platform through which the City Region’s tech community can continue to share knowledge, exchange ideas and collaborate.
Leeds Digital is seeking a marketing assistant to help deliver the Leeds Digital platform, updating and maintaining the Leeds Digital website, and running the Leeds Digital social media accounts.
Reporting to the Marketing & Events Manager, and working to a marketing strategy developed with the Festival Director and the Marketing & Events Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing, editing and publishing content submitted to the Leeds Digital website, ensuring suitability and high standards at all times.
- Crafting and managing social media content relating to Leeds Digital, including copywriting, asset management, scheduling content, and managing engagement across the Leeds Digital social media accounts.
- Researching and liaising with local partners and stakeholders to ensure that the Leeds Digital platform hosts the city region’s most exciting tech news and events.
- Coordinating third-party content for inclusion on the platform, including reviewing events and news content submitted via the website, and assisting with writing content as required.
- Updating the Leeds Digital website, including rotating featured content such as events and news pieces, to ensure the homepage continuously reflects the range of high-quality content available on the platform.
- Managing the Leeds Digital email inbox, answering queries and processing content in a timely and professional manner.
- Developing monthly social media and website performance reports.
- Providing ad-hoc assistance to the Leeds Digital Festival Marketing Manager and Festival Director with tasks related to the Festival and Leeds Digital marketing.
- Managing the Leeds Digital Festival email inbox, checking and responding to emails daily (eg 10am & 4pm Mon-Friday) (this role will be taken over by the Festival Coordination Assistant between June and September).
- Attending relevant networking events*, including those hosted by Leeds Digital and our partner organisations e.g. Festival Launch on behalf of Leeds Digital to build relationships with sponsors and supporters.
- Attendance at a range of events* during the Festival periods.
*These events sometimes fall outside normal working hours and will be agreed upon as a team prior to the event.
You will need:
- At least 6 months of Marketing experience, or a relevant qualification in marketing.
- Excellent communication skills, including fluent spoken and written English, with a clear, concise and engaging writing style.
- Excellent spelling and grammar.
- An eye for detail in fact-checking, proofreading and editing.
- Ability to craft and edit compelling and clear copy for social media and online articles.
- A methodical approach to work to ensure consistency and accountability.
- A demonstrable interest in the digital and tech sector.
- Creativity.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with an understanding of how your approach to work impacts the wider team.
- Excellent time management and a flexible approach to your working days to take account of peak activity within the Leeds Digital calendar.
- To be based in the Leeds city region and available to work in Leeds city centre on Thursday every week.
- Previous experience in social media marketing, using platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
- Previous website management experience, and a good command of WordPress dashboard.
- Previous experience using marketing tools such as scheduling tools (Hootsuite) and design platforms (Canva, Adobe).
- Research skills, to be used when sourcing events, news and resources for inclusion on the site.
- A desire to contribute to the Leeds City Region’s tech and digital community, build awareness of the Leeds Digital brand across the region and grow your own network.
General terms:
- The Leeds Digital team works from a co-working space in Leeds city centre on Thursday each week and you will be expected to join the team for that day. For the remaining days, you may work from home or from the Leeds co-working space. You may also be required to attend client and partner meetings in Leeds city centre on an ad-hoc basis.
- Remuneration: £23,500 - £26,500 pro-rata (equivalent to £14,100 to £15,900 for 3 days per week), dependent on experience.

Recruitment process:

Please be prepared to show that you are aware of the work of Leeds Digital and discuss how your skills and experience are relevant to this role.
Following this meeting, potential candidates will be invited to a second interview which will be held in person in Leeds city centre.
