The role of this particular position involves overseeing the operations of the water treatment plant at the Abattoir.

Minimum Requirements

• National Senior Certificate will be essential.
• A relevant qualification such as environmental science, chemistry or related field will be an advantage.
• At least 3 years’ experience in water treatment operations, including experience in supervisory or managerial position.
• Experience in processing/production within a Chicken Abattoir environment will serve as preference.
• Ability and willingness to work varying shifts, overtime, weekends, and public holidays.
• Sound knowledge of water treatment processes.
• Analytical problem-solving ability.
• Must be able to perform under pressure and work independently with minimum supervision.
• Leadership and people management skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Computer literate.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor wastewater treatment equipment and processes to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Perform regular inspections and tests on water samples to monitor the quality of the treated water.
• Maintain accurate records of wastewater treatment plant operations including daily logs, test results, chemical usage, maintenance activities, and water meters.
• Analyse data and trends to identify issues or potential improvements in the wastewater treatment process and implement necessary corrective actions.
• Respond to emergencies or equipment malfunctions in a timely manner to minimize disruptions to the wastewater treatment process and prevent any impact to the environment.
• Collaborate with maintenance staff to coordinate plant maintenance activities.
• Maintain chemical inventory.
• Maintain excellent housekeeping.
• Responsible for working in a safe manner to ensure safety and the safety of others.
• Perform other tasks, activities and/or duties as assigned by your manager.
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in wastewater treatment technology and regulations to ensure continuous improvement in plant operations.
• Manage staff at the water treatment plant.
