Job Duties
Clinical Duties
Examine animals to diagnose their health problems.Treat and dress wounds, perform surgery, and prescribe medication.
Administer vaccinations to prevent diseases.Provide advice on animal care, nutrition, and general health.
Provide emergency treatment for sick or injured animals.Stabilize animals in critical condition and perform emergency surgeries.
Perform dental procedures such as cleaning, extractions, and oral surgeries.Educate pet owners on the importance of dental health.
Surgical Duties
Conduct thorough examinations and diagnostic tests to assess animals' fitness for surgery.Discuss surgical options and risks with pet owners.
Perform routine and complex surgical procedures.Ensure proper anesthesia and pain management during and after surgery.
Monitor animals' recovery and provide post-surgical care instructions to owners.Address any complications that arise after surgery.
Conduct and interpret diagnostic tests, including blood tests, urinalysis, and imaging (X-rays, ultrasounds).Use diagnostic tools to assess health conditions accurately.
Examine tissue samples to diagnose diseases.Work with pathologists for complex diagnoses.
Client Interaction and Education
Discuss treatment options, prognosis, and care plans with pet owners.Provide clear and compassionate communication regarding animal health.
Educate pet owners on preventive care, nutrition, and behavior.Provide resources and guidance on managing chronic conditions.
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate and detailed records for all patients.Ensure confidentiality and compliance with legal requirements.
Manage the day-to-day operations of a veterinary clinic or hospital.Oversee staff, manage inventory, and ensure the clinic is properly equipped.
