Job position : Principal Environmental Assessment Practitioner

Job type : Permanent

Location : Office (Bryanston Drive, Bryanston, Sandton, South Africa)

Kongiwe is seeking a highly experienced Principal Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) with 10-15 years of experience to lead large-scale Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) in sectors like mineral resources and renewable energy.

The role involves overseeing ESIA projects, providing strategic leadership, and managing environmental and social risks.

The ideal candidate will lead multi-disciplinary teams, collaborate with clients and stakeholders, mentor junior staff, and drive business development to expand the project portfolio.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Lead and manage complex ESIA projects in South Africa and internationally, ensuring high-quality delivery aligned with local and international regulations.
  2. Assess and mitigate environmental and social risks, providing strategic advice to clients and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  3. Collaborate with clients, authorities, and stakeholders to meet project goals.
  4. Oversee project teams, ensuring efficient coordination and successful delivery.
  5. Maintain client relationships, identify business opportunities, and contribute to growth.
  6. Provide technical oversight, ensure quality reviews, and mentor junior staff.
  7. Offer strategic input on environmental policies and sustainability strategies.
  8. Lead tenders and proposals, including scoping, budgeting, and resourcing.
  9. Ensure compliance with local and international environmental laws, including NEMA and IFC Performance Standards.
  10. Support internal process development for efficiency and compliance.
  11. Provide environmental auditing services and assist with regulatory reporting.

Qualifications / Experience Required:

  1. Minimum 10 years proven EIA experience in a lead role.
  2. EAPASA Registration (this is a fixed requirement).
  3. Excellent working knowledge of environmental legislation as it relates to EIA and other environmental regulatory processes.
  4. Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  5. The ability to work in a team and independently.
  6. Critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities, as troubleshooting is at the core of our service offering.
  7. The ability to work efficiently under pressure on multiple projects.
  8. The ability to confidently liaise with clients and work strategically within multidisciplinary professional teams.
  9. Being strategic and innovative will add value to the team.

Salary range : Salary is commensurate with experience.
