ABS Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for a qualified, professional environmental consultant to join our team in Johannesburg. We are an independent consultancy providing a range of sustainability advisory services to clients across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

We typically work on medium to large scale mining, energy, and infrastructure projects. Within the culture and objectives of the company, the role requires the application of sustainable development expertise throughout the project development process.

The typical sustainability advisory services which we provide, and which the role will assist with, includes the following:

1. Complex ESIAs, completed to local and international standards
2. Water, waste and atmospheric emission licensing
3. Environmental audits and compliance monitoring
4. Mine rehabilitation and closure planning
5. Environmental and social assessments and management plans, integrated into concept, prefeasibility and feasibility studies

Qualifications / Experience Required:

1. A Postgraduate Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences / Management or equivalent qualification in Natural Sciences
2. Excellent proficiency in English (report writing and communication) is a requirement.
3. In addition, a strong French language proficiency will be advantageous
4. 3 or more years' relevant work experience, preferably in a consulting environment
5. The ability and desire to travel internationally is a requirement
6. Knowledge of environmental legislation and best practice standards and guidelines
7. Excellent time management, organisation and communication skills
8. Works well within a team
9. A proven ability to collate, filter and assess social and bio-physical data including technical information e.g. engineering designs, laboratory certificates etc.
10. Registration / eligible registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions or Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa or equivalent

Salary range: Market related, according to candidate qualifications and experience
