About The Role

The UX Designer role involves working on rebuilding the merchant product suite, which includes card machines, a merchant portal for managing finances and staff, and various other products to support small businesses. The designer will collaborate closely with a team that includes other UX designers and technical staff, focusing on integrating these products into various Capitec channels such as the app and business banking application. The role requires end-to-end responsibility, from understanding merchant needs through client interviews and journey mapping to creating and iterating on designs using tools like Figma. The designer will also work with developers to ensure the implementation aligns with the envisioned user experience.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • A minimum of three to five years of experience in UX design, preferably with a background in startups or innovative companies.
  • Proficiency in Figma and FigJam for design work.
  • Strong understanding of client experience design processes, including client journey mapping, client interviews, user experience testing, and creating design systems.
  • An innovative and creative approach, with the ability to take control of the product design process from end to end.
  • Grade 12 National Certificate/Vocational.

Skills

  • Interpersonal & Relationship Management Skills.
  • Computer Literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook).

Purpose Statement

  • To apply deep subject matter expertise to influence the development and integration of UX standards into the product development life cycle.
  • To work independently and assume decision-making authority and ownership of the successful end-to-end delivery (development, implementation, evaluation and enhancement) of complex UX solutions, in line with the business, product and UX strategies, as well as brand fundamentals.

Education (Minimum)

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Design.

Education (Ideal or Preferred)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Design.

Knowledge and Experience

Experience:

Minimum:

  • 4 - 5 years’ experience in User Experience design.
  • Strong creative background to support UX methodologies.
  • Experience in leading projects from beginning to end.
  • Experience reporting to, presenting and engaging with Product Owners and Heads.
  • Proven experience in conducting user research, interviews, surveys and usability studies, and translating findings into UX requirements.
  • Strong experience in translating feature requirements into visual designs across platforms.
  • Strong usability testing experience.
  • Experience in championing design thinking for a wide range of products.

Ideal:

  • Experience in the financial sector would be advantageous.
  • Creative background to support UX methodologies would be advantageous.
  • Experience or background in analytics would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Figma.

Knowledge:

Minimum:

  • Excellent knowledge of User Experience design, principles, best practices and trends.
  • Expert knowledge of UX design principles and techniques.
  • Expert knowledge of design techniques (e.g., prototyping).
  • Expert understanding of visual elements (layout, type and fonts).
  • Expert understanding of how best to employ these tools, techniques and principles in designs.

Ideal:

  • Knowledge of psychology, anthropology, and/or behavioral science (as it pertains to CX/UX principles).
  • Knowledge of analytics and data.
