Job Title : Underwriting and Claims Manager

Remuneration : R22 000 - R32 000

Our client, in Wealth Management, is looking to employ an Underwriting and Claims Manager for Short-term Insurance to join their team in Sandton.

The candidate will be responsible for actively pursuing the growth of the Company by maintaining the existing book of business and writing new business for the Short-term Insurance department. The position will also oversee and manage the department and report directly to the General Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities :

Underwriting (Amendments & renewals) :

  1. Provide suitable advice and intermediary services to clients.
  2. Pro-actively manage the client portfolio, ensuring continuity and compliance with the mandate and Company and Industry policies, procedures, and requirements.
  3. Review policy needs of existing clients, making suitable recommendations based on the needs identified.
  4. Obtain and provide quotes to existing clients.
  5. Send through amendments to insurers or, where applicable, do it directly on the online systems.
  6. Keep clients informed at all times on the progress of their interaction with you and the company.

Compliance & Reporting :

  1. Maintain best practice standards and comply with all present and future statutory and regulatory requirements for the Financial Services Industry, including record keeping.
  2. Provide weekly and monthly reports to management.

Market the “firm” :

  1. Promote all the available services offered by the Company.

Client Relationship Management :

  1. Engage with clients to identify their needs and source suitable insurance products.
  2. Develop strong client relationships to retain business.

Claims :

  1. Send through insurer claim forms to clients.
  2. Manage the claims process for clients from registering the claim, doing follow-up calls and emails to insurers, to providing the client with regular feedback until the claim is finalized.
  3. Assist with supporting documentation.

Teamwork & Leadership :

  1. Provide guidance to new business and claims assistants.
  2. Review standard documentation and templates, make recommendations to the HOD, and assist with implementation thereof.

Required Qualification and Working Knowledge :

  1. Matric.
  2. Certificate / Diploma in Short-term Insurance.
  3. RE 5.
  4. 2-3 years of experience in Administration or Financial Services.
