Duties and Responsibilities:
Take ownership of reviewing all gaming VAT and tax calculations for operating entities across Africa.
Ensure timely and accurate submission of VAT and tax returns, working closely with internal teams to request and follow up on payments before the deadline.
Act as the key point of contact for gaming-related tax queries from authorities – owning the response process, gathering supporting documentation, and coordinating resolutions quickly and efficiently.
Oversee the accuracy of monthly VAT and Withholding Tax computations for all African operations.
Review submissions with a critical eye before final sign-off, ensuring all payments are requested and tracked through to completion.
Manage the end-to-end process of responding to tax authority queries, ensuring all follow-ups are resolved without delays.
Prepare comprehensive quarterly tax disclosure schedules and deferred tax calculations, including posting entries where applicable.
Drive the preparation and/or review of annual corporate tax computations, ensuring these are audit-ready and aligned with local compliance requirements.
Collaborate with the Head of Tax, Finance Director, and external auditors to ensure smooth submission and sign-off of corporate tax filings.
Review and track all tax payments from submission to payment receipt, ensuring proper reconciliation of monthly tax and VAT vendor accounts and clearing unmatched items.
Roll out targeted tax training for finance teams, ensuring that any changes in legislation – especially across multiple African countries – are fully understood and implemented across departments.
Provide clear, data-driven commentary on monthly tax movements and trends.
Reconcile tax returns to general ledger accounts across all tax types, flagging anomalies and ensuring records are audit-compliant.
Oversee the submission and accuracy of SOX support documentation via FloQast on a monthly basis.
Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual tax disclosure packs and deferred tax files for each legal entity.
Apply relevant IFRS standards to financial statements and ensure timely upload of audit files to designated portals.
Coordinate all aspects of the audit process, from collecting and submitting supporting documentation to managing back-and-forth on audit queries with team leads and financial managers.
Track all audit-related journals and prepare detailed summaries comparing pre- and post-journal trial balances to signed AFS.
Ensure financial statements are polished and ready for internal and external review.
Compile internal audit files and set up review meetings with key stakeholders to maintain audit readiness throughout the year.
Keep the Tax Matrix fully up to date across all operating entities, reflecting accurate country-specific tax requirements and integrating new market entries as they happen.
Tackle various ad hoc tax and compliance projects that arise as the business evolves.
Requirements:
A collaborative mindset, working closely with treasury accountants, financial controllers, and gaming finance teams to ensure tax obligations are met smoothly and on time.
Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with a proactive approach to resolving issues before they escalate.
The ability to manage multiple deadlines and stakeholders while keeping deliverables on track and aligned with audit and reporting cycles.
