Job title: Tax Compliance Manager

Overall purpose of the role: As a Tax Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations while providing strategic tax planning and expertise.

Position specifications
Educational (minimum level necessary to perform the job):
Professional / Tertiary in Accounting or equivalent tertiary qualification.
Post-graduate Tax qualification or significant experience in similar roles (preference will go to HDipTax / Masters in Tax holders).

Ensures that KPMG meets tax compliance deadlines. Establishes best practices for tax governance and ensures that these practices are used throughout the Southern African cluster.
Business expertise:
Deliver a Full Range of Tax Services: Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations within specified timeframes.
Provide innovative tax planning strategies.
Review complex income tax returns.
Risk Identification and Mitigation:
Identify and mitigate tax risks. Coordinate with accounting staff and tax advisory professionals. Improve processes by implementing best practices.
Tax Provision and Compliance:
Manage tax provision and compliance processes. Maintain tax balances on the general ledger.
Leadership:
No people management experience necessary but engagement with senior leadership / EXCO / Boards will be advantageous.
Nature of impact:
Primarily responsible for establishing a tax compliance office in South Africa, with all ancillary controls and checks. Includes but not limited to Income Tax, VAT, Withholding Taxes, PAYE etc. Review all regulatory tax submissions for the region (Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Mauritius and South Africa). Acts as key resource in tax compliance changes.
Area of impact:
Set policies and update tax policies for the region. Work closely with finance manager in preparation of regulatory submissions and Annual Financial Statements.

Champions the interaction between Finance, leadership and regulatory bodies.
Problem solving:
Prepare and review business procedure documentation to ensure they reflect process / system changes.
Level of decision-making / authority:
Implement tax changes.
