Be among the first 25 applicants. Our client in the metals industry is looking for an organised and analytical Supply Chain Accountant / Controller.
You will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the company's inventory levels of precious metals, to ensure that stock levels meet business needs. We are ideally looking for some financial and accounting experience within a manufacturing and/or processing plant.
You should be comfortable with dealing with variances between input and output and process losses and gains. You should have a sound understanding of manufacturing statistics and uncertainty. Your ability to liaise with the finance and production team is important and to understand the success drivers in these areas.
You have experience with inventory balancing, stock control, reconciliation, and balancing of batch processes. You should also have the ability to lead a small team in a busy and sometimes stressful environment. This role involves overseeing the accurate tracking of high-value inventory, conducting regular stock audits, coordinating with various departments to optimise inventory procedures, and managing import/export documentation.
You will ensure compliance with regulatory and security standards while maintaining the efficiency, accuracy, and security of the supply chain. This is a hands-on, exciting role in a fast-paced environment and progressive company.
Education and Experience Required:
- Relevant B degree or CIMA essential.
- Proven experience as an Accountant / Inventory Controller or in a similar role, preferably with experience handling precious metals or high-value inventory.
- Proven track record in the development and implementation of accounting/stock control systems.
- Experience with ERP systems.
- Experience with import/export documentation and compliance.
- Experience managing a receipt and dispatch team and metal controllers.
- Proficiency in inventory management software.
- Competent in Microsoft Office suite (Excel Advanced).
- MS Office Power BI nice-to-have.
- Accounting packages - Sage Evolution.
- Appreciation for systems and processes.
- Conflict Management.
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Familiarity with supply chain and logistics processes, particularly for regulated or high-value materials.

SALARY: R65 CTC

Duties:
- Monitor and manage inventory levels of precious metals to ensure optimal stock levels.
- Maintain accurate records of all inventory transactions in the inventory management system.
- Conduct regular counts and full inventory audits to reconcile stock discrepancies and ensure compliance with security protocols.
- Collaborate with internal teams to forecast future inventory needs.
- Identify and implement improvements in inventory control processes, with a focus on safeguarding and traceability of precious metals.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of inventory status and audit results.
- Coordinate the warehouses to optimise the controlled movement of goods.
- Manage and prepare import/export documentation for international shipments, ensuring compliance with relevant customs regulations.
- Track and reconcile internal departmental transactions related to the physical and system movement of metal.
- Review the completeness of Stock Transfer Tickets (STT) captured.
- Communicate and escalate discrepancies and unavailability of stock on the ERP system to the Metal Office Manager.
- Coordinate, control, and balance stock from and into the vault.
- Assist with daily vault counts and internal metal audits, providing required documentation.
- Support metal movement in and out of the vault and tracking metal movements into and out of the lab.
- Update daily metal (Au, Ag, PGM) balances on Pastel Evolution.
- Verify stock movements on ARC and compare with Pastel Evolution stock.
- Report stock movement discrepancies for each department against Pastel Evolution.
- Assist with receipt of high-value material as needed.
- Reconcile daily internal departmental precious metal movements (Gold Balance).
- Reconcile daily activities and transactions in the Metal Office and support continuous improvement to reduce variances and losses.
- Support the Senior Metal Accountant in developing real-time daily reporting of inventory levels, metal flows, and variances within PowerBI.
- Facilitate communication with Finance for optimised GRV and supplier payment.
