Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a part of our team, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of Electrical Balance of Plant (EBOP), which includes:

  1. Daily visual inspections, monitoring, installation, testing, service, and maintenance activities of the high voltage substation and overhead line (including 33kV and kV).
  2. Preparation and submission of weekly and monthly reports to the Project Manager, who will approve and send it to the client.
  3. Monitor the power plant through the Monitoring System made available by the Client.
  4. Record and make available all information or events relating to the operational issues on a continual basis.
  5. Carry out the analysis of the performance of the power plant for the purpose of improving the performance by evaluating performance KPIs on a monthly basis with the assistance of Siemens Energy systems engineer.
  6. To be based for six months in one of the following areas, or as close as possible to (Garob, Soetwater & Karusa).

LET'S TALK ABOUT YOU

Your profile:

  • An individual holding a National Diploma (University of Technology) qualification, or equivalent NQF level certification as acknowledged by SAQA with 5 years + of relevant experience.
  • Experience must include at least 3 years of experience working on MV systems or higher (3.3kV, 6.6kV, 11kV, 33kV etc.).
  • Understanding of operation & maintenance of Electrical Balance of Plant (EBOP) within the HV Transmission sector, i.e., high voltage and/or medium voltage substation electrical equipment and maintenance of light substation electrical works an advantage.
  • An ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills.
  • Driver's License.

Other desirable attributes which assist in the role are:

  • Previous experience in a similar environment.
  • Knowledge of Safe Working in a live substation.
  • Valid ORHVS Certificate (expired would be considered).
  • Valid medical test report.
  • Knowledge of Construction Regulations.
  • Knowledge of power system protection.
  • ECSA registration an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge to compile Scope of Work.

Your responsibilities:

  • Effectively satisfy the customer's needs for operational and preventative maintenance, any updates/upgrades/performance optimisation, corrective service, installations and/or workshop repairs in accordance with business contractual obligations.
  • Provide timely completion of service/monitoring reports.
  • Comply with all OH&S policies and service escalation procedures.
  • Maintain personal knowledge of safety instructions and operational procedures.
  • Be the site-based advocate for Siemens Energy; you will be our client's trusted advisor on technical matters.
