Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
Provide individual and/or group counselling (including crisis intervention / debriefing) to students in need of mental health support.
Act as a point of contact for all student wellness support and development needs.
Take on a lead role in student wellness and mental health awareness campaigns and projects.
Respond to and resolve student queries within the stipulated time frames.
Involved in termly orientation for each new cohort.
Develop and implement mental health outreach initiatives, including workshops, group sessions, and community events, to promote mental health and wellness among students.
Track and document national student wellness support and development metrics.
Provide study plans and career guidance.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop and implement policies and programs that support student well-being and promote a healthy campus environment, identifying at-risk students and tracking retention.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of all interactions with students, including progress notes and treatment plans.
Stay up-to-date on current research and best practices in mental health counselling and wellness promotion.
Utilize SACAP’s Student Management System to provide expert guidance to SACAP students.
May act as site coordinator for student counsellors completing their practicum / Work Integrated Learning hours.
Qualification & Experiences
A minimum of a degree qualification in the discipline of Counselling, Psychology or Coaching; or at least 5 years’ experience in a cognate field with high academic results.
Registered Counsellor with HPCSA.
Advanced computer literacy skills, including online systems.
2 years of full-time experience, preferably within the field of Higher Education.
Knowledgeable and passionate about SACAP and its offerings.
Highly developed relationship building / interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
