We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Org Design and Regulatory Compliance. The purpose of this role is to provide expert guidance and support—Kumba’s Organisational Design and compliance requirements, including interfacing with the regulators.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As our Specialist Org Design and Regulatory Compliance, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Focuses on the technical aspects of designing organisational structures, job evaluation, grading, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Key responsibilities include job profiling, job evaluation, advising on structural changes, and ensuring alignment with compliance frameworks like BBBEE and the Mining Charter.
  • Provide specialist advice to Line Management regarding design work on Organisation Structures.
  • Review proposed changes to the Kumba Corporate Office and Operational structures and provide advice on how these would meet the Required Organizational principles.
  • Implement requisite organisational design principles and processes for the business unit.
  • Profile jobs to define strategic, tactical, and operational intent, including major challenges, decision limits, and output standards to adhere to job management intent.
  • Establish and secure position levels that support the Kumba remuneration philosophy and strategy.
  • Align with Reward to evaluate jobs and render an advisory service within Kumba to ensure internal and external parity and governance.
  • Gather, analyse, evaluate, and disseminate information on P&O Transformation trends to facilitate Senior Management decision-making.
  • Define P&O Transformation processes and procedures that create alignment and synergy between all disciplines and Operations at Kumba.
  • Contribute to developing the Business’s Transformation Strategy and plans – including alignment with and responsiveness to the Department of Labour and Mining Charter imperatives.
  • Support the Corporate Affairs department by coordinating BBBEE reporting and submissions and ensuring compliance with listed company requirements.
  • Contribute to managing the climate and relationship with relevant Government entities (DOLE, DMRE, Minerals Council) through proactive engagement and delivery.

This role is in the People & Organisation (P&O) department on a band 6.12 level reporting to the Principal Resourcing, Organisational Design & Compliance.

Qualifications

  • B-Degree (NQF7) in Human Resources / Industrial Psychology
  • (Hons) in Human Resources / Industrial Psychology
  • SA Drivers Licence: Code B (Light Vehicle)

Technical Knowledge

  • Demonstrate 6-8 years of advanced experience in Organisational Design, Organisation Development, and Job Evaluation Systems.
  • Exhibits understanding of the components, principles, and process of effective organisational design, applying this knowledge to manage structural change to improve organisational effectiveness and business performance.
  • Displays an advanced understanding of project management focus areas, lifecycles, and tools and can apply this knowledge in small project environments.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the Business’s Transformation Strategy and plans, including alignment with and responsiveness to the Department of Labour and Mining Charter imperatives.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of established learning and development frameworks, principles and processes and applies essential tools.
  • Knowledgeable in managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government entities and compliance bodies, to ensure effective communication and reporting of compliance matters.
