Background

African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that takes on the complete responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. We currently manage 22 national parks and protected areas in 12 countries covering over 20 million hectares in: Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Sudan.

Job Overview

The Special Projects Manager plays a key role in supporting the management and operations of the Rhino Rewild project by coordinating schedules, facilitating communications, and assisting with strategic planning and grants management as well as general assistance in the overall project operations and planning. This role involves overseeing the preparation of key documents, ensuring adherence to donor guidelines, and managing travel arrangements for stakeholders. Please note that the role requires that you travel between Bryanston JHB and Klerksdorp in the North West.

Main Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Assist in preparing key strategic documents, including the five-year business plan and annual work plan.
  2. Oversee the farm’s central calendar, scheduling meetings, travel, group events, and other commitments.
  3. Coordinate stakeholder travel bookings in line with African Parks policies and procedures.
  4. Ensure work continuity by documenting and communicating necessary actions to management.
  5. Help organize workshops, meetings, and events when needed.
  6. Maintain clear communication with key stakeholders, partners, and external organizations.
  7. Support the Project Manager with various tasks, including reporting, to ensure smooth operations.
  8. Support the Funding and Reporting Manager (FRM) with content for creating competitive proposals and concept notes.
  9. Support the FRM with the coordination and collation of park reports for both internal and external purposes.
  10. Support the FRM with monitoring grant progress, tracking budgets, and making the necessary adjustments through budget projections and realignments.
  11. Work closely with the broader funding team to develop strategies for positioning the Project with potential partners, donors and opportunities.
  12. Assist with operation driven initiatives that will promote the Project.
  13. Assist the Project Manager with specific duties and initiatives.
