Description

The role of the sub-district social auxiliary worker is to provide social support services to TB patients in need. This includes provision of care, support, protection and development of people with TB, their families and communities affected by TB through relevant programs. This position requires a good understanding of the Department of Social Development legislative mandate, policies and programs, the Batho Pele principles and knowledge of the social services network at district level.

Technical Work Responsibilities

  1. Provide assistance and support to social workers with the rendering of a social work service about the care, support, protection and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families and communities.
  2. Assist social workers to attend to any other matters that could result in, or stem from social instability in any form.
  3. Perform administrative support functions in support of social workers as required.
  4. Assess the TB clients’ needs, situations, strengths, and support networks to determine goals and appropriate interventions.
  5. Ensuring that all client files, and other records, comply with policies, regulations, and procedures.
  6. Under guidance of a social worker make recommendations on the best course of action for a client and/or family.
  7. Monitor referrals to ensure that TB clients access services or support they have been referred to.
  8. Provide progress reports in sub district meetings.
  9. Report daily or weekly to the district level SR supervisor, or as per organizations policies and procedure.
  10. Submit monthly activity reports as per workplan to the district level SR supervisor and sub district TB/ HAST manager.

Requirements

Education

  1. Grade 12
  2. Completion of the learnership to allow registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as Social Auxiliary Worker
  3. Social Auxiliary Worker qualification.
  4. Current registration with the SACSSP as a Social Auxiliary Worker

Experience

  1. Experience in administration, group work and case management
  2. At least 3 years’ experience working as a Social Auxiliary Worker in the Public Sector
  3. Flexibility and ability to adapt to changes.
  4. Understanding of the Social Assistance Act, relevant policies, and guidelines
  5. Sound knowledge of the Public Service Act and the Batho Pele principles
  6. Basic understanding of human behaviour, relationship systems and the social systems.
  7. Valid Driver’s license
  8. Information and knowledge management (keeping precise records and compile accurate reports)
  9. SA Citizen or valid work permit to work in South Africa
  10. Willing to work overtime.
