Job Purpose

The Department of Social Development, Western Cape Government has opportunities for suitably qualified and competent Social Auxiliary Workers to provide assistance and support to social workers with the promotion of social change, problem solving in human relationships and the empowerment and liberation of people to enhance social well-being under the guidance and supervision of the social worker.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Grade 10 plus completion of the learnership to allow registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as Social Auxiliary Worker;
  2. Registration with the SACSSP as Social Auxiliary Worker;
  3. A valid code B driving licence.

Key Performance Areas

  1. Provide assistance and support to social workers with the rendering of a social work service with regard to the care, support, protection and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families and communities through the relevant departmental programmes.
  2. Assist social workers to attend to any other matters that could result in, or stem from, social instability in any form.
  3. Continuous professional development.
  4. Perform administrative support functions in support of social workers as required of the job.

Competencies

Knowledge: Basic understanding of human behaviour, relationship systems, and social issues; South African Social Welfare context; the policy and practice of developmental social welfare services; South African judicial system and the legislation governing and impacting social auxiliary work; basic knowledge of financial matters related to social auxiliary work.

Skills: Good communication (written and verbal); proven computer literacy; information and knowledge management; organising and planning; presentation and facilitation; report writing; problem solving and analytical skills; client orientation and customer focus.

Remuneration

Grade 1: R – R per annum; Grade 2: R – R per annum; Grade 3: R - R per annum (as prescribed by OSD).

Notes

Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit documentation for verification purposes and criminal record vetting. These candidates will be required to do practical and attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department and may also be required to undergo competency assessments / proficiency tests.

The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department. Applicants from within the Metro North Area will receive preference.
