Snr Industrial Chemist – Cement Based Adhesives And Emulsions

A well-known manufacturer of various cement based adhesive and emulsion products for the building, waterproofing and construction markets requires the above to manage and oversee the laboratory and processes as well as conducting strategic research into improving old and looking at new products and processes on a national and international basis.
Minimum requirements for the role:

1. A chemistry or polymer science or related qualification is preferred for this role but not essential as long as the person has extensive hands-on experience working in a chemical or related laboratory.
2. Previous hands-on experience having worked as a Technical Manager / Chemist within the chemical, cement-based adhesives, emulsions, waterproofing, or construction industries is preferred.
3. Previous experience or knowledge of cement-based adhesives, emulsions, and waterproofing products is preferred.
4. Previous experience having managed a team of people within a laboratory is essential.
5. Must be proficient in the use of scientific methods, critical thinking and problem solving.
6. Must be willing to learn, have good management skills and the ability to multitask.
7. Computer literacy is essential with good working knowledge of Microsoft Packages.

1. Managing daily laboratory operations and staff to strategically improve existing products and develop new products of various cement based adhesive and emulsion products for the building, waterproofing and construction and related markets on an international and national basis.
2. Ensuring compliance with industry standards and facilitating cost reduction via new product development.
3. Collaborating with senior management within the company to ensure optimised production and profitability.
4. Investigating deviations from specifications and monitoring actions to rectify problems for compliance to agreed standards.
5. Managing or supporting assigned projects.
6. Providing technical support to the manufacturing plant to assure product quality.
7. Publishing progress reports, trip reports and monthlies on approved projects.
8. Visiting customer sites and providing technical solutions to customers.
9. Initiating and attending and presenting technical presentations to customers.
10. Maintaining assigned equipment in a good operating condition and providing training to employees.
