Requirements

  1. A bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited university or college.
  2. 4-5 years of experience as a site engineer, civil engineer or an equivalent role.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in managing and supervising construction projects.
  4. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and other software.
  5. Ability to manage multiple construction projects at various stages of their lifecycle.
  6. Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials and regulations.
  7. Competent in assessing, interpreting and presenting survey reports and other critical data for stakeholders and shareholders.
  8. Excellent project management and organisational skills.
  9. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with effective communication.
  10. Ability to work effectively in a team and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
  11. Attention to detail and a focus on delivering high-quality results.

Job Duties

Site Management

  1. Oversee and manage construction activities at the site, ensuring adherence to project specifications, codes, and safety regulations.
  2. Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, identify potential issues and ensure compliance with engineering and design requirements.
  3. Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, and subcontractors to ensure timely project completion.
  4. Supervise and manage construction projects from start to finish, ensuring adherence to project plans and specifications.
  5. Assign and oversee all members of site staff.
  6. Manage Site Engineers & Foremen on more than one project.
  7. Maintain productivity on site in line with the programme.
  8. Manage the programme by ensuring all stakeholders are attending while not overspending on trades.
  9. Represent the company at project and technical meetings.
  10. Ensure monthly Reports, QA Docs, Registers and others are up to date.

Technical

  1. Analyse and interpret engineering drawings, survey reports and other technical documentation to guide the construction process.
  2. Report project updates, milestones and potential risks to the project manager and key stakeholders.
  3. Provide technical guidance and expertise to resolve construction-related challenges.
  4. Spend time on-site checking all forms of work taking place.
  5. Understand construction details and ensure Foremen understand them.
  6. Draw up method statements for tasks on-site.
  7. Conduct site inspections related to all trades in line with QA policy.
  8. Manage record keeping on-site including cubes, test results, delivery notes, etc.
  9. Manage all foremen and staff on site.

Cost Control

  1. Plan and oversee allocating resources, materials and equipment to optimise project efficiency.
  2. Monitor project costs, identify cost-saving opportunities and adhere to budget constraints.
  3. Place orders for approval by Site Agent/ Contracts Manager.
  4. Avoid ordering materials unnecessarily.
  5. Manage breakages and materials stock.
  6. Meet with site QS daily to do site walkabouts and identify claim items.
  7. Maintain and issue variances/ instructions to QS and ensure that these are submitted timely.
  8. Substantiate capital expenditure and hire costs if required.

Reporting & Documentation

  1. Analyse and interpret engineering plans, aerial photography, blueprints, topographical & geologic data, and technical drawings to plan and execute construction activities.
  2. Have fortnightly reports concluded timely for checking by Site Agent/ PM/ CM.
  3. Ensure adjustments to programme are justified by Delays & or EOT's.
  4. Ensure photographic reports are taken daily as work progresses.
  5. Check QA sheets and site QA weekly and sign off on them.
  6. Draft IRS for checking and updating by the Site Agent or Contracts Manager.
  7. Submit EOT's, NOPDs, etc. under the guidance of CM/PM/ Site Agent.
  8. Maintain accurate project documentation, including progress reports, site diaries, change orders and quality control measures.

Supervisory Duties

  1. Maintain active involvement in all projects by visiting sites and interacting with contract managers.
  2. Ensure staff meet deadlines, discipline is maintained in terms of duties, punctuality, meeting attendance and communications.

Other Duties

  1. Coordinate the procurement and delivery of construction materials, ensuring their compliance with industry standards.
  2. Identify potential risks and implement preventive measures to minimise project delays, cost overruns and safety hazards.
