Job description

An Internal Vacancy exists for a Shift Manager in the Guarding Division based in the Western Cape.

The suitable candidate's main responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Manages on site Security Service Provider (SSP) team.
  2. Manage the Contract Security in conjunction with the SSP Security Manager on the following aspects:
    1. Regulatory Compliance to National Key Point Act (NKP) and the Critical Infrastructure Protection Act (CIPA).
    2. Investigate and complete all required incident and investigation reports to site manager.
    3. Manages the SSP compliance in terms of NKP annual training required.
    4. Ensure that SSP deployed officers complete the required WAG 1 applications and submits to NKP for authorization.
    5. Ensure that SSP employees complete necessary CRC vetting.
    6. Ensure that all SSP employees and management required to be vetted by the State Security Agency (SSA) complete the necessary Z forms.
    7. Team member of the Security Risk, Threat, and Vulnerability (SRA) assessment.
    8. Conducts regular assessments of Security team performance.
    9. Manages all Firearms allocated to the facility in accordance with the Firearms Control Act (FCA) and SSP Firearm Management Process / Procedures.
    10. Manage SSP employee's competencies and develop a database competency expiry date.
    11. Ensure all staff commence renewal process at least days prior to expiry.
    12. Ensure training provider is booked in advance and staff are communicated in advance of training dates.
    13. Provide evidence of training conducted on site for NKP inspection.
    14. Manages all Firearms of the SSP, in terms of Legal requirements, including registrations, audits, and licensing requirements.
    15. Ensure ALL posts have an armed officer allocated.
    16. Responsible for Service Level Agreement compliance of the SSP to the facility.
    17. Manage all Human Resource and Industrial Relations matters for the SSP, on staff deployed to the facility.
    18. Ensure compliance of allocated staff of the SSP to the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority Act (PSIRA).
    19. Develop and maintain a database of PSIRA expiry dates.
    20. Manage the Uniform and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) management.
    21. Develop and maintain a training register and ensure compliance of all training is done timeously.
    22. Maintain records of Toolbox Talks conducted.
    23. Implementation of site security plans dependent on alert levels.
    24. Completes investigations on the facility and planning of all security related incidents.
    25. Manage and Schedule Building inspections.
    26. Implement and investigate all Loss Prevention System Tools (LPS System).
    27. Complete security related investigations and ensure all investigations are registered.
    28. Manage daily audits and inspections and develop a per shift check sheet.
    29. Manage the SMP (pipeline) officers deployed and ensure daily inspection of officers and assets is conducted.
    30. Management of Ad Hoc Service requests.

Preferred qualifications / attributes / skills:

  1. PSIRA Registered Grade A.
  2. Firearm Competence (Handgun & Shotgun).
  3. Management experience (at least 3 years).
  4. Experience in the petroleum sector is an advantage.
  5. Computer literacy (Essential).
  6. Formal Managerial training certification would be advantageous.
  7. Understanding in the following Legal Aspects & Principles:
    1. PSIRA – Private Security Industry Regulatory Act.
    2. BCEA – SD6 – Basic Conditions of Employment Act - Sectoral Determination 6.
    3. NKP – National Key Point Act.
    4. FCA – Firearms Control Act.
  8. Competency in Problem Solving and Decision Making.
  9. Coaching & Mentoring.
  10. Conflict Management.
  11. Strong written and verbal communications.
  12. Planning and prioritizing of tasks.
  13. Building Effective Teams.
  14. Managing and Measuring Work.
  15. Customer Focus.
