A renowned Aviation Engineering company is looking for a 'SHEQ Officer' to join their team on a full-time permanent basis in the Helderberg Area, Cape Town.

Position Overview:
They are looking for a hands-on SHEQ Officer and not a consultant.
As part of a worldwide renowned group, our client specializes in the development and manufacture of components and assemblies from advanced, light weight composite materials.
The SHEQ Officer is responsible for ensuring that our company adheres to legal standards and in-house policies. The goal is to establish a safe workplace according to legal standards and foster a culture of attention to health, safety, and environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure quality administrative support as per the requirements of the companies Quality Management System. (Follow-up on quotations and services required, updating of spares list, documenting maintenance inspection sheets).
- SHE Management: Ensure, Safety, Health, and Environmental administrative support as per the requirements of the companies SHE Management System. (Manage Medical Surveillance Program, COID (IOD’s) reporting and administration, administrate SHE training program, PPE Management (Order and issuing), SHE committee functions, Incident Investigations, Legal appointments, Internal and external audits/inspections as indicated by the Manager).
- Safety Management: Implement and maintain safety management systems to identify and mitigate workplace hazards, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry best practices. Ensure that the facility adheres to all safety notices, regulations and standards. Maintain records of safety drills, Toolbox Talks, inspections, HIRA, MSDS, and certifications. Full responsibility of all COIDA Incidents, reporting, statistics and effective communication with all role players like doctors, RMA, WCA fund, employees and management.
- Health Management: Develop and implement health management programs to promote employee well-being and prevent occupational illnesses. Full responsibility of medical surveillance of employees and the clinic on site.
- Environmental Management: Support the development and implementation of environmental management systems to minimize the company’s impact on the environment and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Quality Management: Assist in maintaining and improving the company’s quality management systems to ensure products and services meet customer requirements and industry standards.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop appropriate control measures and plans to mitigate the risks.
- Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence and prepare statistics.
- Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs to enhance employee awareness of safety, health, environmental, and quality issues.
- Compliance Monitoring: Monitor and evaluate compliance with SHE policies, procedures, conducting regular audits and inspections. Develop procedures to address emergencies, dealing with hazardous substances, fire management, audits etc. Analyze changes in legislation and advise management accordingly.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records and documentation related to SHE activities, prepare reports, and communicate findings to management.
Position Requirements and Key Skills:
- Matric or equivalent.
- SAMTRAC certification or equivalent.
- Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices.
- In-depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA/EPA) and procedures.
- Experience doing Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality administration in a manufacturing environment (South African legal requirements, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015).
- Good knowledge of a production environment and its operational requirements.
- Outstanding organizational skills and 5S.
- SAP experience.
- Conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
- Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety.
- Previous experience of working in a varied production environment.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus.
- Good verbal and written communication skills on all levels with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics.
